Gays in the Military
My current project
The best work I ever did prior to my book Columbine, was a two-part story for Salon in 2000. I spent five months on it, and it won the GLAAD Media Award for best on-line story of the year:
A decade later, Don't Ask, Don't Tell is still in place. Three of the gay captains I profiled are still on active duty. They are now Lt. Colonels. I have been following their struggles for thirteen years.
I'm working a new book about them, to be preceded by a magazine feature. Look for more soon.
