WHERE THE BLUEBIRDS SING & THERE'S A WHISKY SPRING

glen! that is amazing... I didn't know that. and rural Australia, too! what, the wallabies didn't like you?  ;

The thing was, I didn't have anything against wallabies, Jimmy, but I had become rather partial to a cockatoo.   Evil

looking up "jar of hearts" now.

Oh God, I hope you weren't too traumatised, Jimmy.  Ha ha.  Maybe I should have chosen Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?  by Culture Club instead.  Now that really is  an anthem for victims.....

I want to add two other songs to my all-time favourites list.....

Firstly Mr Tambourine Man  by Bob Dylan.  As a boy I was absolutely fascinated by the beauty of the lyric.  I mean, "One hand waving free, silhouetted by the sea"?  Come on!  It is pure poetry.

I also adore Tracy Chapman's Baby, Can I Hold You?  and was delighted to discover recently that Heath was a big fan of hers.  What an old romantic he was.

There is a bit of an Ennis element to the last-named song, especially the line "Maybe if I told you the right words at the right time, you'd be mine".  Poor Jack!

hey glen,, I've had a cockatoo myself  Wink actually, it was finches and a lovebird.

hahaha, the song didn't traumatize me, and there was a line in there that jack could have screamed at the lake, real loud. I was a fan of a certain all saints song at one time, so stuff like that doesn't turn me off.  Wink

tracy chapman is cool... we met on a flight from SF to San Antonio in the late 80's. super nice woman. her "fast car" song was big at the time. it is heartwarming to know that Heath was into her songs. I love heath's taste in music!  Kiss I was into Australian bands before Heath was in my sights, lol. powderfinger, for one. I see ben lee from time to time here in Los Angeles, he paints at the studio. I loved his band, noise addict, when we were all younger. he's almost old, now.  Wink

Your sister's car does sound cool, Jimmy.  I remember the yellow ones with black racing stripes.  Mine was a sturdy car, at least, for 40,000 miles.  It's the one I drove to California in 1976 (San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego and then across the Utah dessert).  But it didn't have air conditioning, so I bought something else before moving to Philadelphia in 1977.

As for the grocery store incident, I was wrong to go off without my brother.  I really didn't know what had come over me.  But yes, he had been a bit of a "punk," criticizing my driving and insisting on doing the driving himself whenever possible.  We both had keys to my mom's car.  So my initial thought hadn't been to leave him at the store, but just to get comfortable in the driver's seat and make him be the passenger.  But when he still didn't come out...it was just too easy to leave.  Of course I would have turned around immediately if he'd called me, but he didn't, he just set off walking, when I called him, he was already at my aunt's, so I went back to pick him up there.

I am not so 'up' on Australian music these days, Jimmy, as I've lived in the UK for 18 years, although I did have my favourites growing up, of course, such as Olivia Newton-John, INXS, Midnight Oil, AC/DC, the Bee Gees, Air Supply as well as others.  As for Powderfinger, I guess you know Heath was a big fan?  One of their songs was played at his funeral.

Thanks for that, Fritz.  Puts me in mind of an Australian comedian in the '80s who used various Australian place and animal names to create comedy routines, many of them quite obscene.  I am sure a woman named Noreen "having seen a cockatoo" was in there somewhere!

Debbie, Somewhere In Time  is a precious little pearl of a movie, isn't it?  I stumbled upon it by accident a few years ago.  To be honest, when I saw that it starred Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, I thought it was going to be dreadful, but quite the contrary - it is a beautiful piece.

Glad you enjoyed it.  I saw it on a tour bus heading up to Michigan, when the tour guide wanted to establish a "Michigan atmosphere" for us.  Since then I've found out how many regular fans the movie has.  I want to see it again and maybe buy the DVD.
