I find a lot of kids these days are vegetarian, but many of them are not getting balanced diets... hopefully they will realize that not eating anything that 'has a face' doesn't mean they can survive on empty calorie foods.

that said, I love chia seeds! NOM NOM NOM! veggie all the way, and good for your body, too.  Grin

I do have to admit (bragging on myself) that this one of the most popular dishes I make. I have made it since the 70's and is actually a recipe that I got and adapted from my pressure cooker recipe book. I got the pressure cooker as a wedding gift in 1974 and started making this recipe then. I have adapted it somewhat to what I like, so it is a little different from the original. I have always gotten raves on it and requests for the recipe. I was always asked to bring it to family and friends BBQs and meals. One of the things I love about it is that it is so easy to make in the pressure cooker. The most time consuming thing is peeling the potatoes. I also think it tastes better made in the pressure cooker than the oven. I think the pressure cooker infuses the tastes in the potatoes better.

I hope I can make it for all of you sometime!! Jimmy has had it already, but I'll make it for him again as well. Cheesy

Thanks, Jimmy! I'm down in SC now, so we'll be celebrating tonight with cake and ice cream with my sister, brother-in-law and mother! First time that's happened in many a year!

here's something that looks addicting! i've never had scotch eggs before, but a japanese woman alerted me to them this morning and said they were delicious.

i guess scotch eggs are a british thing (kinda like crispy tacos are an american thing?)  and can be found at some british pubs here in the states.... definitely not vegetarian, starting with the EGGS, haha

Scotch Eggs

(4 servings)

1 pound bulk pork sausage
1 tablespoon fresh parsley -- chopped
1 tablespoon grated onion
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
4 hard-cooked eggs -- shelled
1/2 cup fine dry breadcrumbs
Combine sausage, parsley, onion, cinnamon and nutmeg; mix well. Divide sausage mixture into 4 portions; shape into patties. Place one egg atop each patty, shaping the sausage mixture around egg till completely covered. Roll each sausage-covered egg in breadcrumbs. Bake in a preheated 350 degree F. oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

So fattening but so good! Scotch Eggs are a favorite hunting, fishing and tailgating breakfast in the Southern USA. They are portable and delicious. In Scotland where the dish originated, Scotch Eggs are especially popular at picnics where they are eaten cold.

ETA: my japanese friend might be right!

By Stocky

Scotch eggs are not from Scotland. They were invented in 1851 by Fortnum and Masons in London.

Jimmy, I've finally found the chia seeds you were raving about last year.

Found them at a decent price at the health food department in an ordinary grocery store.

I've been adding them to my breakfast cereal, but don't know what else to do with them.

I'm hoping they'll fill me up a little more than just the cereal, to help me lose some weight.

How do you use them?

i just mostly make PUDDING ouf of it, or a cold porridge, with dried or fresh fruit inside to sweeten things. or add agave, honey.... it's like a bowl of oatmeal... and will replace my bowl of cereal in the morning...  it's pretty darn filling if you're used to eating light meals, which i think is the key to 'dieting'...

google for various chia recipes. i don't really COOK with them myself, but you can, for some things, apparently. baking, etc. thickeners for sauces, etc..

i make chia fresca drinks too, which is cantaloupe, strawberries, watermelon,,,, blended with the seeds, agave, and water. watermelon fresco is refreshing.

you have read about their beneficial qualities, right? there are lots of websites about chia seeds!

GO CHIA! Cheesy

Thanks Jimmy, lots of ideas!

Yes, I've googled them. It's hard to know what sources of information are reliable, though.

Guy Fieri in Diners, Drive-Ins, and Disasters

(snip)

Fieri also needed protection from homosexuals, or at least advance warning. Early in the show's run, Page got a phone call from Fieri, who'd just walked out of a restaurant in a huff.

"Guy had decided that the two men running the restaurant were life partners," Page remembers. "He said, 'You can't send me to talk to gay people without warning! Those people weird me out!'"

From then on, show researchers were required to note any indications of homosexuality detected during pre-interviews. (Fieri declined to comment for this story through his spokespeople.)

Former field producer Kari Kloster confirms that Fieri made the odd demand about gay guests, and says she witnessed the star become more controlling on set.
