well, i've been to bbm 9 times and plan to make it 10 next week. my last visit was free. something wrong in the projection booth. the whole screen was filled but everything was pushed down and made wider. really funny to see jake and ennis with legs like tractor tires. sat there for a couple of minutes and then dashed down a long corridor to management. they quickly corrected the problem. but i missed about five minutes of the film, so i asked for a refund. they gave back my money. a day later, the film disappeared from the multiplex. it's still playiing at another cinema a few miles away. hope it lasts until the dvd arrives. i will see it every week. so maybe i will make it an even dozen. why this obsession? no film i've ever seen has moved me more or affected me so deeply. but i will be very unhappy when we can no longer see brokeback on the big screen. this film is just too big to fit on my home screen. way too big.

I saw BBM for my seventh time last night at a 7:20 PM show. I went with my partner's 82 year old aunt. It was an amazing experience and one that I am still thinking about this morning.

I had been bragging up BBM to her for quite awhile, and mentioned that part of the experience was being able to read and participate in this discussion group. She doesn't have a computer, so she prepared for the movie by reading Annie's short story.

The theater was pleasantly crowded. Which for me, was unusual, because I had only seen the movie at late showings (10 PM or later), when the theater had only a few people in the audience. Seeing the movie with a bigger group added a dimension to BBM that I had previously missed. I was struck at how the audience gasped in disbelief during the scene when Jack is getting killed with a group bandishing tire irons. I could hear the audience audibly cry when Ennis finds the shirts and at the end when he buttons the shirts and says "Jack, I swear..." I heard a little cheer when Jack finally stands up to the Stud Duck during the Thanksgiving scene. This experience made my seventh viewing of BBM the best one yet. I've had tears in my eyes at previous viewings, but I was full-out crying last night. I was overcome with the audience's reaction to the movie.

I could see that my partner's aunt was having a hard time with the violent scenes -- Ennis getting beat-up by the truck driver and Jack being killed -- as she lowered her head and covered her eyes. But, I could not read exactly how she was reacting to the story. We stayed until the credits were finished. And then she told me that BBM was the saddest movie that she had ever seen in her entire life. She had tears in her eyes.

I took her home and we spent the next 2 hours talking about the movie and how the story relates to all aspects of the human experience. We talked about the difficulties of being gay and how internal and societal pressures keep people from connecting with their true emotions. We talked about how hard it is to peg people as being either gay or straight (one of her sons have had experiences with both men and woman -- and has been very open about it). We talked about how universal BBM's story is for anyone that has been in love but for whatever reason cannot fully make the emotional connections. I sat there talking with her until midnight and reveling in how easy it was to talk to her about the experience that we had just shared together. We both hugged and said how much we loved each other. I cried as I left her apartment for home -- I was emotionally drained.

Other than participating in this discussion group, seeing the movie and discussing it with my partner's aunt was the most profound experience that I've had with BBM yet. I cannot wait to see the movie again!

atomicscott...thanks so much for sharing that story...my father is 90...only in my dreams can I imagine him coming with me to the mountain...centuries of religious homophobia have found their way to him...ah well..ya never know..the sheer energy of all this might even find its way to him...I'll be on the lookout for a change..

6 viewings
5 fellow passengers
2 solo flights

yesterday ...with a pal seeing it for the first time...I decided to sit and let the weather of BBM come to me...breezes..tornados...let them come...at the end, Marcia needed big glups of air...we walked and walked ...said she hadn't cried like that for a long long time...

'n the joy of anticipation...we have a local family run cinema...at the foot of the Blue Mts...outside a bit of Sydney...BBM is coming in early May!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! never ever again will I say "how I wish they'd get the current films ON TIME"...it's a practicality that they can't...so the cloud certainly has the silverest lining..

am planning to gather a group...see it...then dinner and talk into the night....will be precious to see it again (oh ok again AND again 'n again...golly in a week how many times will I see it in May!)...on the big screen...waiting for those guitar cords to welcome Ennis as he comes to town..
hugs

I just saw BBM for the fourth time.  I am hoping to see it again.  Does anyone know how much longer it will be in the theaters?   I hope it stays in a bit more, even if it's just in the smaller theaters, because I want to see it at least one more time.  I heard the DVD is coming out on April 4. Does that mean it's done in the theaters?

Hi all,
Just came back from #17.  I don't know if it was post-oscar fever, or what, but boy did all my buttons get pushed today.  I started the water works at the opening notes of Gustavo's brilliant score, and hardly took a breath without tears the entire film.

Pooh, it will probably not be in theaters much longer, maybe another week or two, unfortunately.  It has cut back drastically here, near Wash, DC, though still available to those willing to travel.  I have not found it to be true about the Apr 4 release date of the DVD.  Amazon does not yet have it listed for order.  I believe that Apr 4 was early speculation.  Though I would love to be proven wrong...sigh.

Tonight was my sixth and final time to see BBM. I can't stop crying and thinking about this rich period in my life where I discovered not just an amazing movie, but so beautiful and thoughtful a community. I loved the movie -everything about it. But sharing it here with everyone has been even more powerful - to talk in such depth, to be privileged to read such personal stories.

I feel full of gratitude tonight for the power of art!

I have seen it 4 times and have brought a total of 9 people with me--two of which saw it twice themselves!  I have convinced 5 others to see it that at first said "no interest" that then saw it and LOVED it!  So, if I calculate it all out right-----I contributed directly 20 ticket sales!  I don't think I have ever seen a movie that I contributed any ticket sales besides my own!!!

Just a follow-up on my story of taking my partner's 82 year old aunt to see BBM. After seeing the movie, we had talked about how Jack may have died -- was it the blown rim accident or was it by thugs brandishing tire irons? I thought that Lureen's story made sense; she thought that he died in the gay bashing as Ennis imagined. Auntie just called me (it's Sunday and we saw the movie on Friday night) and told me that she reread the story and was excited to discover Ennis thinking "So now he knew it had been the tire iron." during the scene at Jack's parent's house on page 49, so she was sure she was right. She told me that she had been thinking of BBM ever since we saw it and cannot get it out of her mind. We both laughed when I suggested that she get a computer so that she could participate in the forum!  Smiley

Good story, A, and isn't it wonderful for you to be able to have S's aunt to talk about this to. It is really great Smiley
I hope to be able to go see the movie one more time on the big screen (14) before it is gone from there. I am so spoiled by my experience seeing the movie in LA with so many Brokeaholics, that I may not. I would have to go by myself. urk Sad

This afternoon..Sunday, 12:30 PM...saw it for the 9th time with my partner.  It's scheduled to run through next Thur.....been here since Jan. 27th"...in the middle of the Appalachian bible belt. When it first got here, I predicted maybe a week before it would be gone.  How wrong I was!

Crash opened again this weekend in our much less attended $2.00 second run theater.

I was thinking and I'm sure probably not the first....I've watched heterosexual romance movies all my life, empathized and cried.  I still can't watch the King die while his Anna looks on holding his hand (The King and I) without a rush of tears. The straight world has had many romantic heroes and heroines.

Finally we have Jack and Ennis.

The tragedy of Romeo and Juliette lives on in literature and film.  Now, we gay folk have Jack and Ennis...and even without the BP Oscar, and possibly because/in spite of it's being "lost", BBM will far outlive its run in theaters.  It will continue to inspire and cause refelection.  God knows how many lives it will save.

Going into the theater tonight I couldn't help but notice a young man sitting alone waiting for the film to start, a ball cap drawn down over his eyes.  In the yet undimed light of the theater, I also noticed the wedding band on his left hand.  I thought,.....Maybe he has a gay brother or friend and is just trying to understand or....maybe........

......saw the 3:10 showing today........its been at this Indiana cinema since it was released back in December.....probably 40 people in audience, all over 35.....the couple behind me was probably at least 65 or more and when it was over I heard her ask her husband what he thought...he said "I loved the film"
audience was pretty much silent throughout , no laughter, or anything.....but when Ennis is on the phone with Lureen and visualizes the tire iron bashing the entire audience either gasped or broke into crys...very unsettling

I feel like I've just left a funeral viewing.
