Wonder how much this will be played by th Tv stations. At least the Sydney Morning Herald has this about Matthew Mitcham

From teenage retirement to Royal Easter Show high-diver to gay icon to gold Olympic medallist;

One person who has been by his side for the entire tumultuous and now brilliant journey is his partner, Lachlan, he was in the crowd last night courtesy of a Johnson & Johnson Olympic sponsorship.

Mitcham is one of only a few "out" gay athletes in Beijing and the first Australian to openly declare his homosexuality going into an Olympics. He's been a cover-boy for gay magazines and featured on the cult gossip website Perezhilton.com accompanied by the tagline: "Yum. Yum. Yum! Can we have a piece of that?Whut?".

http://www.smh.com.au/news/diving/dive-for-gold/2008/08/24/1219262633209.html

I don't know whether to be prouder that he is Aussie or Gay and I do not follow the Olympics and found out on one of my regular blogs by an American Gay Episcopalian priest.

The Melbourne Herald-Sun reports,

"Mitcham's victory was so monumental that he became Australia's only athlete to join superstars Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt to grace the front page of the China Daily newspaper.

"With a full page photo and appropriately headlined "Matt Finish", Mitcham took the gloss off China's diving domination with an incredibly polished performance."

Theres' a link to a video of him celebrating with his partner Lachlan and his mum, Vivienne in Beijing:

Sad news that the Cafe Scheherezade here in Melbourne is closing down. It was the place where I spent a delightful afternoon with my very first Brokie, MadameS. I still have their business card tucked away in my box of BBM memorabilia, which contains an odd assortment of mementos. They all mean something precious to me.

I can say it now, since so much time has passed and I know so many lovely people here on the forum who will find it funny, that my husband (whom a couple of you have met) was most dubious about my going to meet someone called Madame Shawshank, was semi-convinced she'd be a predatory transvestite or something. At that time he couldn't understand the hold that BBM had on just plain ordinary (and at the same time, extraordinary) folk.

Hugs to you all, and especially to you, Joan, for that lovely afternoon.

angel..Ministering..hugs back!  There are many people who didn't/don't understand our BBM experience..am thinking of some folk in particular, and their comments after seeing the film.  'tis the same with many a film, however the power!!!!! of this one...that it hit so many for six...across the globe...across lives...across ages...across beliefs...across .....across surpries...across discoveries...

unforgettable

'n we all continue the dance

cafe closing...I've been there twice...both top notch enjoyment times :-)

glasses raised the that cafe...with thanks and love

Thanks Canstandit. Merry Christmas to you. As you can see, if the forum depended on Aussie participation it would have folded long ago Undecided

it's quality, not quantity that counts!  Wink

Merry Christmas to all Brokies, Aussie and otherwise. I hope you all got a copy of The Dark Knight DVD from Santa? I certainly did.  Smiley
