It depends what you are looking for. If you have a job, best stay where you are. While Australian unemployment is not as high, or likely to be as high, as in the UK, now is not the best time to be looking for a job here.
I guess the  climate is better, a matter of taste. I hate the heat and if it was possible for me to live in Europe, perhaps Germany rather than UK, I would go tomorrow but then I have retired. Culturewise Australia is the pits but that is my opinion.
As for Brokeback discussion, it appears everyone has turned out the lights here anyway. However that seems to be the situation with interesting conversation anyway. My blog only receives comments from USA and Britain and fellow Australian bloggers make one entry a month if lucky.
You may gather I do not like living in Australia much even though I have lived here for 65 years  Cheesy
However if yo uare really serious you need to look at the Australian immigration site http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/175/eligibility-applicant.htm
A Canadian blogger I read provided this today along with those of Canada and NZ to show how much more difficult it is to get into the USA.
Fortunately I can easily migrate to NZ but I just have to sell my house first.

Well, I don't know about BBM discussion, Brian. I still put in plenty of my waffle on the subject  Smiley  There were never that many of us to begin with. Latecomers still join the discussion threads here, including at least one new Australian, so the process goes on, albeit without the frenzied need of the past.

NZ's economy is not looking good but it's still a beautiful country to live in. It's time I went back again for a holiday.

Yes I know you are still here, Mini, we just seem to be in different threads. I must admit that while the film will always hold a special place in my life, I have little more to say about it and, don't have a heart attack  Smiley, I have not enjoyed any other of Heath's films.
My reading is mainly in Support Groups and Connections and with the passing of Rance (Osprey) I have considered leaving. However I still log in just about every morning. It is disappointing to see that people I met here in Sydney no longer even log on. Tony (Tfferg) is still around and commenting but he actually lives in Bangkok where I had dinner with him. I did not know of any recent new arrivals.
Is it something about Australians? I am on Railpage Australia due to my interest in trains but it is full of school kids and often degenerates into slanging matches, one is almost afraid to make a post.
I contact other blogs interested in Gays and the Church but the Australian ones just seem to disappear and nearly everyone who comments on my blog is from North America or Britain.
I just checked back over this thread and if you removed the kind posts by our American friends at the time of the bushfires, you could count the number of posts this year on one hand.
Very depressing.

Thanks for the reply Brianr. I think after listening to all the hopless ideas with British Budget it was just a gut reaction, needing to vent !!!!!  It seems its the same the world over, no escape , may as well stay put.  It was a nice thought though .

Hello!  There is a conversation which is taking place over on the 'News and Current Effects' thread which involves public health care and the proposed system here in the U.S.:

Ask our friends to the north (Canada) how they like their setup with health care, and I would suspect you would hear most are not all that pleased.  From what I see on the surface, the proposed plan is similar to what the Canadians have.

Since Australia has a public health care opinion we would be interested in your opinion of your health care system.  Please join the conversation here:

They grow not old
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them.

In honor of Remembrance Day.

APT6 Cinema

Australian Cinémathèque

Queensland Art Gallery - Brisbane

27 December 2009 – 8 January 2010

Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Ang Lee has constructed a remarkably diverse filmography, ranging from period dramas and literary adaptations to martial arts epics and human dramas that witness shifts in contemporary Taiwanese experience. Whether working in a historical idiom or in a contemporary setting, Lee brings a deeply humanist sensibility to his films. The narratives he chooses are characterised by notions of marginalisation and transformation in characters exploring their gender, sexual and cultural identity, and their filial and social duties.

APT6 will include a selection of the director’s award-winning films, including Se, jie (Lust, Caution) 2007, Brokeback Mountain 2005, Wo hu cang long (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) 2000, The Ice Storm 1997, Yin shi nan nu (Eat Drink Man Woman) 1994 and Xi yan (The Wedding Banquet) 1993.

The Australian Cinémathèque, located at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, presents retrospective and thematic film programs and exhibitions, exploring the important lines of influence between the moving image and other areas of visual culture, and showcasing the work of influential filmmakers and artists. Its mission is to collect, conserve, present and interpret film and screen culture.

The Gallery’s film and moving-image collection includes work by significant international, Asian, Pacific, Australian and Indigenous Australian artists. Other collection development areas include video art that responds to the specific history and genres of cinema; animation, especially from Asia; and conceptual art and its legacy through performance.

The Australian Cinémathèque's facilities include two cinemas, with more than 300 seats combined. The smaller cinema features retractable seating to allow for multimedia performances and events. The Australian Cinémathèque also has a dedicated gallery for screen-related exhibitions, and facilities for video production.

The Australian Cinémathèque is an Associate Member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), an organisation of the world’s leading film archives dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of film.
