Okay, here are the lyrics to O Canada in Inuktitut:

O'Kanata

O'Kanata nangmini Nunavut
Piqujatii / Nalattiaqpavut
Angigllivaliajuti sanngijulutillu
Nangiqpugu / O'Kanata
Mianiripluti
O'Kanata nunatsia
Nangiqpugu mianiripluti
O'Kanata salagijauquna

Can I come to the party now?

No, although I've been to their parties.  I'll send you a pm about this.

OK, Canadians -- We'll be announcing several DVD Parties tonight/tomorrow (where attendees bring and wrap a DVD for donatin to library, college etc) -- in the USA.  (Watch the DVD Library thread for details).  We'd love to see some in Canada too.

Remember hosting doesn't have to be at your home, it can be at a park or community center, even a restaurant.  It's a good excuse to get together with your fellow Brokeaholics and have a fun time as well as contribute to a noble cause.

If you are interested in hosting, PM me and I'll send you the DVD Host guidelines.   Thanks.

ummm...WHAT??!!

Alas, Adrian, nothing earthshattering to report on the meeting.  I was probably one of 75 extras there that day to shoot those scenes, and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time to chat with Mr. G for a total of about 70 seconds between takes.  Normally I pass on doing extra work, as it's only one step up from being herded with cattle -  but I didn't manage to snag anything bigger in the auditions, and thought the torture was worth it to be part of this film in some way.

I barely even remember what we talked about - when I met him, I remembered he was in October Sky, and told him my science nerd boyfriend had loved the film.  I also mentioned I was doing a play about a gay cowboy in the fall with Calgary's GLTB theatre company, and there was some conversation around that.  Jake was a very nice guy, as are most of the celebs I've encountered working on films in Calgary.  He and Heath Ledger walked around the city pretty much unnoticed during the filming, and a lot of friends have told me they ran into them in local coffee shops, or at a local watering hole, The Ship and Anchor.

My funniest recollection of the day is seeing Anne Hathaway walk into the bar to rehearse the scene where she dances with "Jack" for the first time.  She had her hair in the hugest curlers I've ever seen, which kind of gave her bouf the appearance of a space helmet.  At the end of the day Ang Lee was standing by the door thanking people for being part of the very long day, which was pretty darn classy.

Yeah - but being an actor myself, it didn't feel like a big deal (I know, that must sound like heresy to some).  Lots of us in Calgary met various cast members.  In the end he's flesh and blood like the rest of us (though his flesh is admittedly of a little higher quality than most).  I've been drunk with Stella Stevens, fought in the mud with Sam Elliott, dressed in strange Hallowe'en costumes with Peter Scolari, and embarrassed myself in front of Helen Reddy.  Aside from Shaun Cassidy (who was a total jerk when I introduced him to my little sister), it's all been good.

Greetings NNWaguy,
Thanks for the reply - and by the way - i am almost always in Vancouver between the end of July and mid-August.  Anything to escape the heat of Montréal.  So, yes, it could be quite possible.  Keep me posted!

Gee, CalgaryActor, could you see your way clear to come to Vancouver about the time of the VanGay celebrations (end of July/start of August)?  That way we'd have a 'real' piece of BBM in our presence ... you could console Adrian and we might be allowed to touch someone who actually spoke with the Gylly!

Hope this doesn't conflict with your play in the fall.

Hi Lola - The tv series Honey I Shrunk the Kids was filmed in Calgary, and since Peter Scolari is so short, actors like me (the 5'7" and under set) got lots of work on the show.  I particularly remember the Hallowe'en episode - I was in one chair being made up as a werewolf; Peter was in the next chair being made up as Marcel Marceau, and his onscreen wife was being made up as Xena the Princess Warrior.  Strange.

Thanks for the invitation to Van Pride, NWWaguy.  I have very fond memories of Vancouver.  I was last  there the same summer I did my bit on BBM, performing my Andy Warhol show at The Vancouver Art Gallery.  I'd run down to English Bay after every show and watch the sun set, then hang out at a gay coffee shop on Denman (Delaney's, I think).

Be brave, Adrian.  I mean, if that's really your profile pic, then it's not like you're exactly chopped liver yourself.  You'll find your substitute for Gyllie eventually.

I went to see the movie tonight for what I figure will probably be the last time on the big screen.  It was strange watching the scene where Ennis is looking out the window for Jack.  The vista is of Fort Macleod, with the mountains in the distance, the (reconstructed) Fort to the right, and downtown Fort Macleod to the left.  You can see the back of The Empress Theatre to the left.  I saw the film there on one of my first viewings, and it's really strange to think I was sitting in the theatre, watching the film, while I was seeing the theatre on screen in front of me.

Been trying, but, there really isn't any substitute for the Gylly.  Thanx for the vote of confidence though Wink

RE parallel 'bbq' in Vancouver and when, etc.  Just posted this info on Texas BBQ and thought it should be here for general discussion.

michaelflanagansf asked:

'What I wanted to ask was...is it definite now...Are you doing the Vancouver gathering somewhere around July 29 - Aug 6th?'

I simply don't know.  Sorry.  I'm going to plan around those dates, 'cuz I think it will broaden the appeal and fit in ... but, until someone responds more definitely, who knows?  As for us, we will probably spend the early part of the week up in Whistler, then come down and stay at the Lonsdale Quay hotel ... Adrian has suggested we might 'crash' at his place in N Van ...

Hey, maybe if WE agree on a date ... the others will join in (?) or, at least, suggest alternates.  In any case, I gotta have a lotta lead time to arrange time off from my job.

Whaddaya think?

Celebration of Light 2006 http://tourismvancouver.com/visitors/things_to_do/listing.details.php?category=1882&id=3889

Aug 5 might be the operative day here and the gay pride parade on Aug 6

(One prob for me is that we usually cannot get the first week of the month off, but maybe that's a myth.  As soon as we can decide, I'll try)

I agree that a date and location has to be agreed upon so that people can decide. Although I favoured an Alberta location, Vancouver is great because I have family there. Depending on the date, I may drive so that I can make a pilgrimage to BBM on the way Smiley
