I"m waiting word from corporate office on vacation time ... if I can't get the week off I can only come up after 5pm on Sunday and have to be back at work 7am Monday ... not kewl!

If we move it later, it'll conflict with the Texas BBMBBQ and I think some wanted to go to that, also.

OR, we could plan it earlier or after the Texas shindig.  I was just thinkin' that being on hand for GayVan would be extra special.

LOL at worst, if there's 3 or 4 of us, we can meet in my hotel room Sunday night ... we'll watch the dvd, have a couple cold drinks (as long as one of us is still able to go get the ice) and go our merry ways!!  Now, that doesn't mean y'all can't plan a longer gettogether.  I was just hoping to be part of it.

I am often regretful that I have arrived so late at this time in my life, but remind myself to be thankful that I have had the opportunity to arrive here at all.

I would have to agree - it is easier to work around a planned event  - i know i'm a recent joiner but  would be interested in some kind of meeting.  And my plans are to be in the Van during that period...
Actually i will be in Calgary just before that so... either is great!

Doesn't matter how new you are, it's the fact that you are here that's important.

Once the date and general location is fixed, we'll just have to make the plans to be there that fit our own situations.

So, NWWaguy, set the date Smiley

I'm waiting on corporate about MY dates ... (sigh)  Got an email back telling me to take it 'higher' ... hehehe

One maybe good sign is that 'higher' read my email within 10 minutes ... I'm leaving my connection up and checking back from time to time ... will 'advise'

and thanks

Thanks Phrag3,
You made me feel welcome.  I would love the opportunity to sit face-to-face with folks and hear their stories.  While the internet is a great thing, it is a joy for me to hear someone tell their own story with all their experience conveyed in their voices.  For now, however, this is a great forum.

As powerful as the movie was to me (you can read my posts to find out), these Forums are even more powerful and provide such a connection to others of like mind Smiley

I started this Canadian thread (with encouragement) to give a place for Canadians, and those that want to be, to settle. The threads out there can be overwhelming, and I've found this thread to be a quiet place for people to meet.

I'm glad we are moving towards an event - it has the potential to be awesome.

On a personal note, I'm met some terrific people through the forums, people I would never had met otherwise. Every person who posts, is in my mind, a friend. With these posts, our lives are enriched beyond words. I hope and trust that those who have posted so far on this thread, return, and share their stories with their friends. Smiley

If nothing else we can stop by the Dufferin and find a few people in cowboy hats to watch it with us, I'm sure!

So......Anyone in the Toronto Vicinity - we're going to have to meet for drinks in September!  I'll be staying at the Delta Chelsea from Sept 7th to 11th and then the Marriott Courtyard from the 15th to the 18th (Stupid work 'can't do without me for the whole 10 days' so I have to miss the middle part of the festival - not happy am I)

I can also probably get (VERY) good tickets for showings at the TIFF (We're Gold Sponsors) including seating in the Stars areas - once the films are announced (I have access to advanced pre sales)  But that'll have to wait!

NWWaguy and Dan, re meeting in Vancouver end of July early Aug timeframe, I should be able to come over. Perhaps we could agree on a hotel once a date is picked, then folks could make bookings. Adrian probably doesn't need a bunch of strangers invading his place (unless of course we're invited!).

NWWaguy, did you have a hotel in mind?

Cheers,

My choice would be the Londsale Quay Hotel in North Vancouver (near our dear Adrian)  http://www.lonsdalequayhotel.com/

My personal problem:  We don't have a relief manager here and need to hire one.  My boss won't agree to anything unless and until we hire somebody!  Yikes!  I need to think this through some more.

The Lonsdale Quay has a great location, nearby sightseeing (Grouse Mountain, Capilano Bridge), huge market downstairs, incredible shops, meeting rooms ... (sigh)

I hope we can go forward with plans, despite my boss' hangups!  More later ...

 Grin Progress  Grin

Boss said put in dates and we'll work on it: I put in for July 30 - Aug 6 - the day of VanGay parade.

Therefore:  Can we focus on that for now?  How does it work for you guys?  This period will let us participate in GayVan events if we want to.  What do we want to do?  Get a meeting room for a showing? (That'll depend on how many, I guess).  Get rooms and intermingle?  (I'll prolly have a smoking room ... so someone will for sure want non-smoking one).  This'll let Adrian to invite us for whatever if he wants to ...

We'll probably spend the first 3 or 4 days up at Whistler (if someone wants to join ... let me know) on Aug 3 or 4 come on down to the Lonsdale Quay  http://www.lonsdalequayhotel.com/  for the rest of the week.  This can change of course, but reservations should prolly go in within the next month at the latest.

And ... if this does NOT work ... let's figure it out right away!

The dates would work for me. If we set up a couple of days of activities, that would be great. I'd book a room for those days. Spend the rest with my family out in Chilliwack. A screening would be great. Probably a small meeting room would be enough. But one never knows who all might show up once the date/place is set Smiley
