On my first trip out of Europe, I met Mike (fofol). I didn't really expect to ever visit the USA, it seemed an impossible dream.

Just shows the imagined power of Brokeback Mountain.

Lovely photo, Jess!!

I'd say this isn't the imagined power, this is the actual power of Brokeback Mountain!
Bringing people together, making friends we would never have made without this amazing movie!

Great shot, Jess. I have one thing in common with you and Mike - very short chats. You in a pub in Oxford, and Mike on a bus in Boston. Let's hope the next time will be longer...

Oh, Mike, and my husband and myself spent a whole evening together, he bought us a lovely meal,  drove us all over Providence, Rhode Island showing us the sights, and then took us to a coffee shop.

You and I were not so lucky, John, meeting only briefly a few times in Oxford. But hey, there will be a next time I feel sure, and then we will have a really long chat.

I'm sure your knee surgery goes well, Jess!

Let's see about the gathering - we have to plan at least something for the new year!

Pleeeeeease !! I was too late coming on this thread to know about the "visit " to London. I really...I mean REALLY
want to meet up with some of the UK Brokies. Just give me plenty of time to plan my escape from here ....and I'll be there. Will be nervous so be gentle with me !! Plus ...most probably be tearful at finally finding someone who "understands". Must go and wipe my eyes even now ..just typing this.I'm such a silly fool Embarrassed

I'm going to call in to Texas for 4 days to stay with Lyn (pugs5) as part of my annual vaccation. Strange to thinkI can get to Texas with far less fuss than I can get to London !!

Sue, the very short notice was that we were on tenterhooks to see whether they were actually going to show the film this week, and they announced it very much at the last minute.  We talked about you yesterday Smiley - realising that it would probably have been too difficult to arrange.

Came across this poem, it was read Sunday on the radio program Writer's Almanac on APM.
Can't find any more information on the writer.

A Description of London

by John Banks

Houses, churches, mixed together,
Streets unpleasant in all weather;
Prisons, places contiguous,
Gates, a bridge, the Thames irriguous.

Gaudy things enough to tempt ye,
Showy outsides, insides empty;
Bubbles, trades, mechanic arts,
Coaches, wheelbarrows and carts.

Warrant, bailiffs, bills unpaid,
Lords of laundresses afraid;
Rogues that nightly rob and shoot men,
Hangmen, aldermen and footmen.

Lawyers, poets, priests, physicians,
Noble, simple, all conditions:
Worth beneath a threadbare cover,
Villainy bedaubed all over.

Women black, red, fair and grey,
Prudes and such as never pray,
Handsome, ugly, noisy, still,
Some that will not, some that will.

Many a beau without a shilling,
Many a widow not unwilling;
Many a bargain, if you strike it:
This is London! How d'ye like it?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2012/jan/20/hollywood-costumes-exhibition-victoria-albert-museum

Article about an exhibition of Hollywood costumes scheduled for October 20, 2012 to January 13, 2013 at the V & A in London. The Shirts are mentioned at the beginning of the article but it's not clear that they will be on display.

The blog below clarifies the situation:

This is a chance for European Brokies to see them and seems like a nice opportunity for a few people to meet in London later this year.

I like the sound of that Kim. It could be a great opportunity for us Brokies to hang out again. Count me in!

Damn when I first started reading the post on WDW I way like "Yay!!!!", cause I will be in London the beginning of March... But then I saw that that will be too soon for that exhibition... Sad

But who knows - in October/ November I might just be ready to go again if there will be some Brokiething going on... Cheesy

Of course it would be nice to see some Brokies in March as well, but I don't know if there are any Londoners or other Brits here who would have the time (or want) to meet up with me. Smiley

Uli, you're gonna be here in March? I'm away cruising(ships, not men) on the 20th for 2 weeks. And I'm gonna be visiting with Sara during my birthday on the 15th. When are you here?
