Just found out that all the bunting in the village is staying up until after the Olympics - the only bit of the jubilee I watched was Annie Lennox at the concert - superb as ever!!!

Bah humbug!!

Sal Grin

I liked the concert actually, and as you say Annie Lennox was particularly good, and I loved her dress. Elton John never fails for me either, and Tom Jones is having a huge renaissance at the moment.

Oh yes Fritz, all those people putting on their royalist hats to me is the same as those who celebrate christmas for the wrong reasons.

Is this a good place to ask what you think the right reasons are for celebrating Christmas, Sal? Smiley

Christmas has become totally commercialised in the majority and I disagree with it. Christmas is celebrated as Jesus' birth, not how much you can spend on presents.

I celebrate my own way, I only purchase small token gifts for my family and close friends, I send emails to friends and cards to close family. I shop normally for that week, with the added bonus of a nice bit of fillet or sirloin. I would prefer to be working than stuck at home over the xmas period.

I love ours too, John.
I try to make Christmas  as less commercial  as I can. I make all of my special Christmas cards for Brokies and family, and also try not to send cards just as an act of duty. I want to put as much of myself into the cards and gifts as possible. I usually go to Midnight Mass, and of course with grandchildren Christmas is always a bit special.
It has made a big difference, I didn't use to enjoy Christmas at all, but now I do.
