A note from my step-father.

Our Dr called today and told us we have to have a Bronchoscopy done on Dee. He said the CT scan was not good enough for him to feel comfortable with so (Thursday) at 12 noon she has the Bronchoscopy. For you that don't know what that word Bronchoscopy means (that included me for sure) is they take a scope with a camera and something on there that they can take a sample of what she has in her lungs and go into her right lung and see what is there. Dee also has been very confused and don't make scene a lot of the time. I talked to the Dr. about that and he thought it would be best to take a CT scan of her brain and they will do that tomorrow also at 9:30 AM. I was wondering if she might have had a mini stroke or something like that. So we are maybe getting to the bottom of this I hope. When we hear more will let you all know.

Tom,
It's good that you don't have to wait for them to do the tests, then they'll be able to plan a strategy for her treatment.  And I'm sure it means a lot for you to be there for her.

Good thoughts for you and your family, and your Mom, of course.

Update: This is in my Step-father's words.

This has been a long day at the Hospital. We had both the CT of Dees head today along with the Bronchoscopy (Tube down into her lungs) The lung test didn't go as good as the Dr would have liked it. He said Dee was coughing quite a bit and he was not sure if her got a real good sample. In fact here are his words. "there is a concern  the samples aren't adequate to show anything" then he said depending on what those results are he might have to do a needle biopsy.

Then the brain CT this morning, and I will write it as he put it in the record. "the head CT that was done this morning showed a small mass with some swelling around it. The swelling is what has been causing the problems you've been having in your head. The MRI we will do Monday will be able to take a closer look at this area" The problems Dee was having are her being confused and can't talk straight and can't tell you what she is thinking. I found out just today she told a friend of ours that she was having trouble. I didn't really notice it until last Thursday when she could not tell me that a dishwasher is a dishwasher. I was in the living room and this was after we got done eating she said "I will wash the dishes in this thing I don't use much" Then latter in the day she could not say Air Conditioner. That is when I told her Dr. I think she might have had a mini stroke. So that is why the head CT.

So at this time we just ask for prayers and a lot of them. They pulled me through the problem I had 2 years ago. We will not hear anything until Monday on the lung biopsy and the MRI might not get back to us till Wed.

THANKS!!! everyone. will know more on monday. What is strange they (the doctors) think that perhaps both issues might be connected. The coughing could be effecting her brain or perhaps its the brain causing the coughing. SHe never coughs when she is on her fast walks, it only occurs when she tries to relax or sleep. Strange!!
