Just heard of the death of Eric Sykes...one of our countries funniest and well loved comedy actors. Don't know if he ever got to be "known" in other countries but I believe his type of comedy could "travel" and give everyone a fit of the giggles ! Loved you Eric ...will be missed by me and I suspect so many others. R.I.P.

More about my mother. In the words of my step-father.

Today has been a very big day for the two of us. We started at 8 AM and got home around 4 PM tired and not knowing very much yet. The Dr. took about 10 speciments (spelling) and he told us the guy that tests them could not give him a firm answer if it was Cancer or not till he gets it under the microscope. He also has to test the stems of the things he took out for cancer. So until we hear from the Dr we are still in limbo.
We did have one sit back today and that was the Dr. said there was a very small spot in her Left lung. This was the first we have ever heard this. He said he was not to concerned about that one becasue what he finds out with the right lung will be the same. He said he would not have to do a needle prob on the left side.
Dee took it real well a heck of a lot better then I am doing for sure. The Dr. that did the test was one real nice guy and was right up front just like I wanted him to be. There is still hope until we know for sure, and if it is not good news the fight will begin. That was one of the first questions the Dr. asked is if it is cancer do we plan on going for treatment. We said yes we will and then he said ok then I will do this needle prob. He said there is no way he would put Dee through this if we were not going to fight it. This is about all for now till we hear the test results. KEEP PRAYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eric Sykes.
Earl Sykes.

That's uncanny.

Sykes was the surname fan-fic author '271-Horses' gave to Earl (of Earl and Rich) in his long and very bleak work, entitled Roots.

more news from my step-father about my mother. In his words.

(July 5th 2:00 PM)The 4th of July ended up being a set back for Dee. We had gone to her Sons place for a real nice dinner and came home about 5:30 PM. Around 8 PM she got a real bad headache and I ended up taking her to the ER after I called my Brother in-law who is a ER DR in Bismarck. He gave me some advice before I went and it helped me a lot. They gave Dee a iv with some pain killer in it plus one with a drug to shrink the tumor. Then they took another MRI of her head and it showed that the swelling has gotten a little bigger. That  is what my Brother in-law thought might happen. They did offer Dee to be put into the Hospital but until we get the results of the needle test on her lung we didn't see were it would help and the Dr agreed. We are still waiting to hear the results and will not send this email till we hear something. The ER Dr. was talking surgery, and until we know more that is out of our minds. The other Doctors we have worked with feel the same way.

3:30 PM Dr. Briggs just called and told me that it is Cancer and the name of it is "Nonsmall Cell Carcinoma". I contacted Roger Maris Cancer Center and the soonest we could get in for a meeting with one of there Dr. would be some time after the middle of July. Dr. Briggs I am sure can get treatment started a lot faster at Essentia were we have been doing our Medical work. In fact what he told me was "I don't have any pull over there at Roger Maris but here at Essentia I know I can help you a lot in getting faster treatment" Dr Briggs has done one heck of a good job so far and we are very pleased with him. Essentia did all right with me and there are some friends we know that have had good results at Essentia.
                                   LOVE TOOT & DEE

PS now we have to double the prayers!!!!!!!!

more about my mother, it doesn't sound good at all.

We got into the Dr. office at 12:20 PM and got out at 2:40 PM. This guy is something else as far as a Dr. goes. I thought we might have a 1/2 hr with him and he said to us "what ever it takes" as far as time goes. First thing he said was "just what part of this do you want to know?" We told him don't hold back tell it to us straight out.
He told us the cancer is not only in her lungs and brain but in the tubs leading down into the lungs up by the Y were it branches off and goes into each separate lung. I asked him if we could have surgery on this and he said "It is just about an impossible surgery" then I asked about the Brain and he showed us were the cancer is and he wants to have a PET Scan done before they decide what the next step is going to be. He told us about this and then he said you just sit here I am going to go see the the guy that dose the Radiation surgery. (He had a name for this guy but I don't remember what it is)
Now they want to wait and see what the Pet Scan shows. My feeling is if the Cancer is in other parts of her body then just the 3 spots that we know of now they might not want to do anything. (This is my thoughts, they never said a word like this.)
A Pet Scan is like a MRI were they inject a Radionuclide into her arm and then have to wait 45 to 60 minutes. Then she will be brought into the room were they do the Scan and let her go to the bathroom and then do the test which last about 20 to 30 minutes. This Pet Scan is going to be done this Wednsday July 11 at 12:45 PM and it will be Thursday July 12 before we get the results of it. I am to call him at 1 PM Thursday and he will fill me in on what the tests showed. I also asked him to call my Brother in-law who is a ER Dr. and he said he would do that. I don't understand Dr. talk but these two will. By the way the total technical name of her cancer is "Non Small Cell Squamous Carcinoma" The key word in there is Squamous that tells the type. I asked how big was the tumor in her brain and he said just under 1 inch and it is located on the left side near the back of her Brain. This just about takes care of this and I know there are a lot of Questions out there that you all might have but at this time I don't have the answers except what I told you. Just keep praying.

Tom, have been praying, and will keep on, and hope for the best.

No wish to raise false hopes, but you might consider asking the doctor if proton surgery is compatible with your Mom's particular circumstances.  It is non-invasive, and they fire protons at the tumors while the patient is in an MRI.  I believe there are less than 10 in the world (they cost 200 million to build the particle accelerator) but there are 2 in the U.S..  One of them is in Hampton, Va., across the river from where I live, and they probably don't have too long of a waiting list, since they have advertised. I'll try to do a search, tonight, and see if I can't give a better name and where you could look it up.  Amazingly, it is so new, some doctors do not know about it.

ETA:  did the search and you can find it at hamptonproton.org  Also, there are now 10 in the U.S., so, probably one closer to you.

Whatever happens, we are, all of us, hoping for every help there can be.
