tearing down Candlestick...damn.

Of course, if I still lived there it would be ok if they moved, since I was in SCLA...but I wish they didn't have to demolish it.

When the 49ers leave the city they've called home for nearly seven decades, fans won't be the only ones missing them.

The football team's departure for the South Bay means it will cease to be a huge economic driver in San Francisco, where it has generated millions of dollars annually for the parks, tourism industry and general tax base. And it will leave Candlestick Park to be demolished.

After talking about it for years, the National Football League franchise will officially start its exit Thursday, when construction workers break ground on a $1.2 billion, 68,500-seat stadium next to the Great America theme park in Santa Clara. It is expected to open by fall 2014.

The story I read said the ump called it out/dead/foul/whatever and just a bit later signed that it wasn't which is what caused the argument with the Padres' manager.

the homeplate ump raised his hands as he was getting out of the way of the ball, and it was very close to a signal for a dead ball...

Well, the Giants are struggling early on in the season, losing to the Phillies last night 5-2.  Lincecum was lit up in the first for 4 runs, and the defense is off, too…

About Brian:

Giants closer Brian Wilson is likely headed for surgery on his right elbow after an MRI showed structural damage and an issue with the ligament

Yes Buster is back, although he plays first base periodically, to give the leg a rest.

I remember occasionally buying 49ers tickets from season ticket-holders who couldn't use them.  They sold them to me at face value - $60...'course, that was the '80s...

Good article, the fans are pissed and should be...

49ers season ticket prices force out some faithful

Season tickets for the 49ers' new stadium are selling like hotcakes, even though we're not talking about IHOP pricing.

The most expensive 1,000 seats in No Name Yet Stadium will cost $375 per game - plus $80,000 for a life-of-the-stadium license to buy that one seat. Those 1,000 seats are nearly sold out.

Nikki,
sad to say the Phils aren't doing any better than the Giants, 5 and 6, 3.5 gb in the NL East.

The Giants are 5 and 6, 4 gb in the NL West...bad days...good thing we have until October!

East would freak about Tim Lincecum's start

Henry Schulman
 Friday, April 20, 2012

As a Phillies beat writer was standing in the Giants' dugout waiting to talk to Pat Burrell on Tuesday, he was asked to speculate how the fallout would look in Philadelphia if Tim Lincecum were pitching with the Phillies and opened the season with three terrible starts.

The writer's eyes grew wide and described something close to Armageddon, with hell, hath and fury spewing out of every pen, microphone and ticket-holder's lips.

It's not merely Philly, but Boston and New York, where the Giants open a four-game series against the Mets on Friday night.

*******************************************************************************************************

I love Philly fans....they know what's going on and won't put up with any bullshit from a millionaire pitcher whining about "I play hard every day."

Yeah, so throw strikes.

Giants lose another one....

Ruben Tejada scored the winning run on a throwing error by catcher Buster Posey and the New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 5-4 Saturday after blowing a three-run lead moments earlier in one of the wackiest ninth innings imaginable.

Josh Thole sacrificed and Tejada, who drove in three runs, drew a walk.

Pinch-hitter Justin Turner then hit a grounder to shortstop that could have been an inning-ending double play except that Aubrey Huff, who had just been moved to second base for the first time in his 13-season career, didn't cover the bag.

Burriss hesitated before making a low throw to first and Turner was called safe on a close play. The infield single loaded the bases for Nieuwenhuis, who hit a grounder to Belt at first.

He threw home for the force and Posey tried for a double play, attempting to hit a moving target in reliever Jeremy Affeldt as he raced over to cover first. But the throw sailed wide into right field and Tejada came all the way around from second, sliding in with the winning run.

Boy, the Yankees sure put a damper on the Red Sox and their Fenway
Park 100 Year Anniversary festivities this weekend.  The Sox were ahead
9-0 yesterday when the Yankees got a grand slam and then another
multiple run home run and then and then and then...it was 15-9.  Talk
about rubbing salt in the wound.

Meanwhile, the boys in blue are 12-3!
