Not like.

NFL's First-Ever Female Ref Set to Make Her Debut

Tomorrow night, a woman will officiate an NFL game for the first time ever. Granted, the game between the Green Bay Packers and the San Diego Chargers is just a preseason game, but still: This should be a huge deal, right? Finally: a woman will wear the zebra stripes, run up and down the field with the players, and be responsible for making crucial calls. What a huge step for women everywhere. What a huge step for equality.

Or is it?

Shannon Eastin, the woman scheduled to make history tomorrow, is not actually a member of the National Football League Referees Association. In fact, the only reason Eastin is scheduled to referee is because the NFLRA has been locked out since June due to a collective-bargaining dispute (much like what happened with the NFL players last year). Therefore, Shannon Eastin stepped in as a replacement ref, or as some people like to call it: a scab.

ABC is showing the Texans / Panthers game tonight.  1st football game of the new season....now if only it wasn't 100 out, it might seem like football season.

And a rabid UT fan in the neighborhood already has his Longhorn flag out, and while I'm not a college football fan, it's all part of it...we're gettin there!

I knew Little League Baseball was coming up soon.

The regional playoffs are finishing this weekend, and San Antonio, TX is going to the playoffs at the LL World Series.
One more game tonight between Northern CA (Petaluma, CA) and Hawaii.

I am not much of a major league BB watcher, but love Little League.

My boys came up thorough LL from T-Ball to Senior League (as well as playing Middle School and High School Football) and their dad coached them for 3 years of their play in LL. It brings back wonderful summer memories.

I think they should kick him out of baseball...since he was MVP of the All-Star Game, doesn't that mean the National League gets home field advantage in the World Series?  They should give it to the American League.  The Giants have 45 more games, and he can't play any of them, so he really screwed their post-season.   But you can't tell me he's the only one.....

Major League Baseball suspended left fielder Melky Cabrera for 50 games for testing positive for testosterone, a performance-enhancing substance.

The suspension, during which Cabrera will not be paid, is effective immediately.

Cabrera, 28, was enjoying a career-best season. He was named Most Valuable Player in last month's All-Star Game at Kansas City, where he went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run. The switch-hitter leads the Majors with 159 hits and 52 multi-hit games while batting .346 -- the second-highest average in the National League -- with 11 home runs and 60 RBIs in 113 games.

Hey Nikki, heard the Eagles won their first pre-season game.  Sad for Reid, about his son...he'd been fighting drugs for years, I think I heard about it a while back.

49ers beat the Vikings...good start.

Fans are looking forward to Eagles season.  This year is do or die for Reid as coach.  Vick is still top quarterback, but backup, Kafka, doesn't loiok like a winner.

Bengals beat the Falcons 24/19; I fell asleep early, as the first string was watching from the sidelines.

Detroit Lions at Baltimore Ravens tonight on Fox at 7...bit of a problem as it conflicts with the Cubs/Reds game...but I like these kinds of conflicts....

And it is getting to be more like football weather in Austin, it's only gonna be 99 today  Smiley

ok, the olympics are already annoying and I'm sick of Michael Phelps and his family....isn't there any other hard-working olympian they can interview?

Michael Phelps could get in trouble for Louis Vuitton photos
By Chris Chase

Michael Phelps could be in hot water -- not the cold bathtub he appears to be in -- for his recent photo shoot with the French luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton.

Punishments for the rule range from fines to a stripping of medals.

The campaign was set to begin on Aug. 16 in order to comply with the IOC's campaign against ambush marketing. Someone jumped the gun and the photos appeared on a wide variety of websites starting on the second Tuesday of the Olympics.

Louis Vuitton denies releasing the photographs, as does Phelps' camp.

Rule 40 states "a competitor or a team may lose the benefit of any ranking obtained in relation to other events at the Olympic Games at which he or it was disqualified or excluded; in such case the medals and diplomas won by him or it shall be returned to the IOC." In other words, Phelps could theoretically be stripped of his medals from London.

The odds of the that happening are about the same as the swimmer winning six gold medals in women's gymnastics at the Rio 2016 Games. Unless there's a vast conspiracy involving the maker of high-end trunks and the world's greatest swimmer, it seems safe to assume that these photos were leaked by a rogue individual. Pictures that aren't meant for public consumption get leaked all the time. Michael Phelps can attest to that fact.

Then again, one of the leaked ad photos was with former Russian gymnast Larisa Latynina, the woman whose record for most Olympic medals Phelps broke in London. If we were still in Cold War mode, it'd be a legitimate possibility that she leaked them as part of a wide-ranging conspiracy to get back her record.

Conspiracies abound!
