A friend called this afternoon from NYC where she is the guest of an assistant trainer of one of the Belmont horses. She said they knew yesterday, after IHA's morning work, that he had heat in his leg. Instead of calling the vet and scratching him then, they applied a poultice. They sent him out early this morning and he basically came back on 3 legs. The thing is, the whole barn knew what was going on and it was kept quiet... except for some random murmurs... until his people made the announcement. THAT is solidarity.

Tendonitis is serious business and stall rest for as much as 18 months is necessary. Having him take part in tomorrow's festivities is a terrible idea.

And why was he not scratched yesterday? A big money decision had to be made. And it turns out he is worth a lot more (in stud fees) if he was scratched than if he ran and lost... and possibly had to be killed because of increased injury to the leg.

If he couldn't run with all the bute they were pumping in him, he really must have been in bad shape.

The International European Tournament (soccer) started yesterday. A woman interviewed on TV was asked if she was looking forward to it...she replied " I'm going to buy a large tin of paint........ and paint a wall ....then I'm going to sit and watch it dry" !!   Cheesy Cheesy

I love soccer.  And not just because so many of the players are hotties!  I just watched Germany vs Portugal and although not a perfect game it was still pretty exciting.

I do have a big crush on Portugal's Raul Meireles for some reason.  Must be the tattoos.

Not on bute. Not on lasix. He worked fine yesterday morning... railbirds noticed nothing wrong. It was the way they cooled him out and then shut him behind closed doors after that got tongues wagging. Ken McPeak said more than anyone about the barn situation and even he kept his mouth shut.

The track vet and a noted equine vet both examined him and both left it up to IHA's connections whether to run him or not. They chose not.

And it is such a lovely way to stick it to New York and the NYRA. Hits them firmly in their pocketbook which, apparently, is all that matters to Bloomberg.

Late yesterday, I was at the bank and the teller said "You don't look happy. What's wrong?"
I told her "They scratched my horse for the Belmont tomorrow."
Her mouth formed an "O" and in a shocked voice she said
"On no! That's terrible. Do they know who done it?"

Pleasant. Part of him appears at attention.

I just watched my first UFC fight.  McGillavray VS Coy.  It was absolutely disgusting (and strangely arousing).  The ring was covered in blood!  I couldn't believe it!

Patting myself on the back, four of my top five ended up 1-4 at the finish line. The one who didn't was Dullahan who was 7th.
The surprise, for me was Five Sixteen, with Rosie on board, coming in 5th... I had them at 8.
