Hey, gang, I can't access my email right now, so I'm putting it here:

It appears that Focus Features liked our first ad idea so much that they borrowed the concept for "Milk:"

That's a nice ad, thank you for bringing it to our attention.
I am just wondering, though, if Focus Features actually placed
the ad.  The blogger says they did, but the ad makes it seem like
the organizations did.  Plus, as of right now I could not find that info
out anywhere else online.  Not that it matters, but I am skeptical of
alot of internet info from blogging sources.  Especially after I watched
David Denby on Charlie Rose last night!  LOL!

I like Denby--what did he say?

Denby was talking about his book and mis-information
(or non-information) spead about on the internet as it
appplies to the term Snark.

20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards Nominees

OUTSTANDING FILM – WIDE RELEASE
Brideshead Revisited (Miramax Films)
Milk (Focus Features)
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (Columbia Pictures)
RocknRolla (Warner Bros. Pictures)
Vicky Cristina Barcelona (The Weinstein Company)

I was glad to see 'Nick and Norah' nominated here.
People might wonder why--is it a gay film--huh?--but
Nick and Norah is exactly the type of film that treats gay
people the way we envision it.  As a part of normal everyday
life.  Nick's two friends that he's travelling the city with in
search of love are a gay couple.  And they aren't there JUST
for comic relief or comic effect, although they are amusing
at times.  They are there because they are Nick's friends.
And that was one aspect of this endearing film that was
surprising, unfortunately surprising, but surprising.  I really
liked this film although the current gross-out mentality scene
or two I would have left out.  Still, it was good to see this
recognized by GLAAD.

SIDEBARS:
Michael Cera, the lead in that film who was also in Juno, is
up for a BAFTA tonight for their most promising newcomer
award (although a BRIT will usually win it, of course!) and
Sherwood Shcwartz recently announced that he wants him
to play Gilligan in his Gilligan's Island feature film.  (He wants
Beyonce to play Ginger!)  I doubt, unless they go for an R rating,
that Gilligan's Island will be up for a GLAAD award!

Would that be The Great Gazoo (voiced as I recall Harvey Korman)?

I like to think we set the standard, no matter who actually placed the ad.  Wink

LGBT History Month
“Taking place in February each year, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community.

Although looking I haven't found out yet; does anyone know why the UK
celebrates February as LGBT month?  In the U.S. February is Black
History month and June is when most U.S. GLBT celebrations are held because that's when Stonewall occurred.  (A friend once told me--I didn't know that, I thought it's because the weather was nice.) ! ! ! ! !

Black History Month is celebrated here in February because both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass were born in this month.

LGBT History Month has been welcomed by the government. However, its origins lie with the grass roots.

The idea came from School’s Out!, a campaigning organisation of LGBT people involved in education. They took their inspiration partly from the US, where LGBT History Month has been celebrated since 1994. They also make respectful acknowledgement to the example of Black History Month.

Sydney's famous gay Mardi Gras began as a Stonewall celebration in June. However, as that is the middle of winter down here, it was moved to February, our most humid month. Much better for those whose costumes are very minimal but not so good for those of us who like to wear leather  Grin

Thank you for the link to the Matthew Shepard murder site and memorial in Finding Brokeback. I love that website, and am glad they're finding more and more things of interest to put on it.

After the Estes Park gathering in 2007 I went to Laramie and asked at a couple of visitor centers and eventually the library (but not the police department) about where the murder took place. I didn't encounter any hostility, but people were for the most part uninformed about the details of the murder, and didn't know exactly where it took place. A librarian was especially helpful and friendly in assisting me, and pointed out a site that he thought to be accurate, but he wasn't sure. I went there and took some vids, but that site has turned out to be incorrect. The false site was near a housing development with new houses being built at the time. It wasn't too far from the actual site, but I'm glad to know where it took place now for the next time I return to the city.
