- yes, when I first saw this I did't know what had hit me - now I know, perhaps, and it still hits me, the whole thing defies any rational analysis.
Thanks Ellen.

Thanks for 10 Things We Love About Heath, although we could probably write a hundred things and still be finding plenty more. The occasion of his birthday is a time for reflection on what a great talent and great human being we have lost.

That's not a dumb questions - ya know, originally I had in the caption "from what is thought to be an ankle injury" - but then I took it out.  Maybe I should put it back in  Cheesy.  My understanding is he injured his ankle in a basketball game, but I'm not sure (which is why I took out that part), I can't keep up with Jake-news like our Lashers can  Grin.

I saw the film Shelter that you mentioned in TDS today.

My brief review:
At first I was a bit impatient with it--it did not seem to be covering
any new ground that I haven't seen in a gay film before, but I began
to be, and was finally won over by the earnest and believable
performances that made it work.  In many a low-budgeted gay
themed film there are a couple good actors and some of the
supporting ones are downright awful.  The acting in all departments
was quite good in this one and that was a tremendous boost.

janjo - thanks for the item about Alan Duncan, I missed all that. US readers please note - I agree with janjo the timesonline link she gives captures quite well the mood here. Duncan comments very positively on the changes in attitudes to same-sex couples in the UK.
My daughter, a young schoolteacher here in the UK, was telling me today there are several openly gay kids in her school. Now that's progress.

and Rosewood - that was nice. I called myself after the montezuma pine - because it seems to be very diifficult to get hold of in the UK, I think it's a wonderful tree and because it comes from Mexico.

Thank you very much for your kind words Montezumae. I found the whole tone, even of the research, really refreshing.

yes, really quite cheering isn't it!!! - you'll see a cross-ref to this in the 'ignorant straight girls' thread. I am still sort-of amazed that we are living to see this acceptance. I have a little quote somewhere which says there are three stages to recognising truth
1. ridicule
2. outright hostility
3. sudden acceptance
- well, something like that.
- gay weddings seem to fit that pattern.

That was a nice "Thank You" to the moderators.

Four of us were at dinner Sunday night, talking about the forum (among other topics), and all agreed we'd never want to / be able to be a mod...not for love or money. Too tough a job.
