Footsteps in my life....leave memories in my heart

I love you guys, and hope we can keep this ride goin' for a long time.  I watched the scene where Ennis collapses last night, the first scene I've watched in several months.  It is just as powerful as it was the first time...but I'm a wiser man now and even in this short time it has a different meaning than it did a few months ago.

That's kind of the way I felt...like an Ugly Duckling who suddenly thinks "Am I a swan?"

Bobby

Gorgeous Bobby,

We love you too...I was so touched by your words. I'm so very proud of you. I can't believe I just watched that same scene Sunday night. It tears me up each time, but you feel tougher and better after a good cry, don't ya? You start putting yourself in his shoes...uhhhh...just heart trenching.

You've come a long way and you're sticking to your guns. Cheers to you,our very own Brokeback Swan.

Love ya,

Nellie  Kiss

Life is not fair...I think we all know that...so we just have to live it the very best we can.

There is a tired old saying but it is appropriate at times.  Fair (actually fare) is what you pay to get on the bus.

Twistedboy:

I hope what I've said didn't come over as a pity party of any kind.  I don't feel that way at all.  I'm more than happy to pay my fair fare because it appears through this forum and the movie I'm finally getting a better perspective on life.  I like the perspective that is coming out as I wrestle with some of the buggaboos that have plagued me all my life.  It is giving me a better view of religion, my family, my work, my friends...of life in general.  I'm just feelin' blessed and seem to be in a good mental place.  However long it lasts, even if like our boys it is only 'once ever four years,' I intend to revel in it while it's here.  Look what they got out of it...the kiss of the Century! and love undying.

Bobby

P.S.  My greatest wish is that my family and friends could have experienced this Brokeback Moment with me.  But, doing it on my own may be best for me.

P.S.S.  What do you think?  For those of us who need some help, shall we have a "Weigh In Day?"  Or maybe just an up arrow or a down arrow?  A wise man I know says that unless you are required to return and report how you're doing, in some way, then it's harder to succeed.  I know there are many who don't want their weight out there for everyone to know.  Just wondrin' what you think.  You can PM me or answer here, if you want.

P.S.S.S.  Lola scared me when she said the thread might be dying out.  Let's do some brainstorming and see if we can't come up with some regular features that will attract more of us on a regular basis.  We used to have recipes from some, and that's a good idea.  Maybe we could link to health articles now and then.  What do you think?

How beootiful you are girl!  Thanx!  It's a wonderful picture.  I think I'll print it out on my new color laser printer at work and put it up on my cube.  I'm anxious for someone to ask me about it...I can see a twinkle in my eye already!

  Always take care of yourself.

This really says it all.  Take care of yourself mentally, physically, spiritually, because we only have this day, who knows what's around the corner, but I want to be ready for whatever life throws at me.  If I'm strong in my mind, strong in my body, and strong in spirit I can move mountains (one of those mountains is my weight, the other is to know God better, and I already exercise like a maniac so that's one down, two to go Cheesy).

Bobby, my friend, you've been thrown a potential curve and your positive attitude and all our love and prayers will be with you and make you stronger, able to face any challenge.  And you have Lola's inspirational picture of the swans(beautiful!) to "see" us with you everyday and you can feel the group hug.  I can too.  How wonderful that you've been able to enjoy some pool time with your granddaughter!!!  This life is a one shot thing and I believe we're here to enjoy all God has given us, now, not when the kids are gone, not when the weight is gone, not when we have more money, all these excuses that can hold us back from living in the present.  Ok, let me get off my soapbox......

I'm feeling those blessings every day too and my mental health has done a 180 from last year at this time!  Revel in life, enjoy it while it's here, exactly!

Excellent, excellent suggestions.  I'm all up for the weekly weigh-in, I've been plateaued for a couple of weeks.  Of course, the damn double stuffed mint oreos my sister bought are not helping, I told her not to do that again, I am weak only because they are mint!!!  She was weak cause they were buy one get one free!!

Here's my recipe for Broccoli Salad.  I took it to a party on July 4th and got lots of compliments.  Then I made another batch for home and polished it off too!!!

Prep time 20 minutes

Salad Ingredients

2  cups broccoli florets (raw)
1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion ( I use Vidalia- not as strong as red)
1  tablespoon sunflower seed kernels
2  slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled ( microwave does this great, very little fat left)

Dressing Ingredients

1/4 cup light mayo
1  teaspoon olive oil
2  tablespoons cider vinegar
2 tablespoons splenda

Mix salad ingredients together in a large bowl.  Whisk dressing ingredients together in small bowl, pour over salad and mix thoroughly.  Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours, overnight is even better!!!  Makes 2 servings. I multiplied by 10 to make a huge batch!!

per serving--Calories: 212, Fat: 17g (ouch, that's a little high Undecided), Protein: 3g, Carbs: 12g, Fiber: 3g, cholesterol: 18mg, Sodium: 483mg.

It's a heck of a lot better than eatin' mashed potatoes, macaroni, or lots of other baaaad things!!

Bobby, I'll pm you about the "challenge" I know I'd like to lose another 10 at least by the end of Sept.  Game on!!!!!!!!!

Hey! All:

We've taken a poll and decided that we won't necessarily give our our weight, but we will have our Weigh In Day as Friday.  It's a good check for the weekend and avoids that Monday Morning Disaster Weigh In I've done in the past!

So, this Friday we'll outline our goal and when we'd like to achieve it and then each Friday until then we'll let everyone know how we're doing.

I have been tremendously helped by Lola's FOCUS mantra.  I'm at a point where I could have gone the other way, but have maintained on Lola's focus until I can really get mine back.  I finally weighed my shoes this morning so that I wouldn't have to take them off every time I weigh.  They weigh 2.4 lbs., so I just subtract that.  So this morning I was 214, which means sans shoes I was 211.6...which I consider a win after what I've been doing lately.  Whew!  That's a 65 lbs. loss still, but I've been saying those same numbers for two+ months.

So I'm in the middle of 10 1/2 weeks until Homecoming and I'm going to focus on that.

Night all.

Okay, see ya Friday, be there or be square!   Grin

And littledarlin I printed off that recipie, it sounds great.  I would probably use the fat free mayo, that may cut down the fat a bit.  Sounds  good though, I love Broccoli and it is so good for you!

I love broccoli, too, but have decided we don't need to cook it anymore in the house.  My wife is not that fond of it, so I'll just use it in my salads.  She has been trying really hard to come up with new and good recipes for good food.  Consequently, we've found some things we really like...and of course I eat more!  Double-edge sword you know.

Okay, let's see if we can't do some posting on some other threads and lead them to our Lovesick Diet thread.  Some will stay and will become grrrr8! buds...some won't, which is okay.  Maybe there are some who would come but 'know not where to find us.'

I've almost finsihed Lance Armstrong's book...down to the Encore chapter where he talks about cancer.  I saved it for my bike ride tomorrow.  It has been really interesting how close to the surface my emotions have stayed while reading this book.  When I first picked it up I was ending up with red eyes and a mound of Kleenex next to my chair!  This book just came into my life at the exact moment I needed it and I've been so thankful.  I don't know what the guy is doing now, and I don't care, because he wrote a wonderful book.

I picked the book up at this really neat little Children's Crisis Center Thrift Store.  I like garage saling and thrifting (going to thrift stores) and don't know how this little gem was missed all this time.

Off we go.....

I think I told you before Lance is hanging out with Jake these days and doing great!!  If looking at Matthew, Lance and Jake isn't enough to keep us motivated on our diets, I don't know what is.   Tongue

I hope to see you in some other threads Bobby, there are some great fun threads on this board.  Like you say,  we may make people feel more comfortable about coming here, if we all branch out more.

Funny you put up that pic Lola!!  I was getting my hair done yesterday and picked up the People magazine (july 24 issue with Jennifer Aniston on the cover) and one the second page was gorgeous Jake in his tux and a full page of Jake, Matthew McConaughy, and Lance on bikes  in the scoop section!! hot hot hot!!!  I stole the magazine and have been drooling over gorgeous Jake ever since!!  It has definitely inspired me to get on my bike again!!!!!  I wish I knew how to post pics!  I believe that's Matthew Mc. in the white in front of the pack!  What a glorious sight they are!!  Imagine seeing that as you're driving down the road and oh look it's Jake, and Mathew, and Lance,   CRASH!!!!!!!!!  Ok done ranting about beautiful men now Grin  Thanks for the picture Lola!!

Can't wait for Friday, I have tons of healthy recipes so I'll try to put one up every day.  Today's recipe is:

Parmesan Vegetable Stir-Fry

Prep Time 15 minutes

1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1/2 onion, thinly sliced (vidalia for me)
1 clove garlic, chopped (oh come on 1?  more like 4!)
1/2 cup fresh sliced mushrooms (I always use more)
1 cup fresh spinach ( I use more spinach too)
1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
2 Tablespoons Parmesan Cheese (I use the good stuff, in block then shaved)

Saute' onion and garlic in olive oil until soft.  Add mushrooms and cook until done.  Add spinach, toss well and saute' very, very briefly.  Sprinkle on lemon juice adn Parmesan Cheese.  Serve hot.

Makes one serving.  Add shrimp or chicken for a one dish meal.

Calories: 275, Carbs: 22g, Protein: 8g, Fat 17 gm (reduce cheese to lower fat), Sat Fat: 0g (good), Fiber 6gm (excellent), cholesterol: 10 mg, sodium: 1189 mg (the cheese?)

BTW had the boys on bikes at the bottom of my screen while typing this, very hard to concentrate!  My sister walked up and said "that doesn't look like your taxes!!"  LOL  busted!!

ROTFLMAO!!  you are sooooooooooooo funny!

Yea they would cause some traffic mishaps, no doubt about that.   There were alot of really great pics of the three of them in the eyelash thread.  Shocked

That recipie sounds so good and so simple.  I just printed it off.

I am cooking a turkey today and you can't get much more low fat than that.  And it smells so darn good while it is cooking.

Can't wait to see the rest of your recipies!

Well it is called the Brokeback Mountain Lovesick Diet! lol

Jake is young and in shape, but he is young, he should be in shape.  Matthew has kept himself in great shape and Lance, heck Lance is a professional athelete!

I think it is important to stay healthy, not just to look good (as the three of them obviously do) but to keep good health.

I have no doubt that the tremendous shape that Lance was/is in was what helped him with his cancer battle.  I mean the treatments alone are like a marathon.

So we try and do our best, especially as we get older.  Good days and bad and just pray that we are blessed with good health and that we do everything within our power to see that it continues.  Grin
