Well, news, real news, from CBS : a new reality show, later this month, Dogs in the City  !!!!!  Yay !!!!!

Unless they screw it up.  I know there'll be the odd poodle, and, God help me, a probable pomeranian.  I can live with that. But am hoping so very much for a Norwegian Elkhound, and all kinds of Labradors  Smiley.

Which brings up the question.....anything about this show goes here, right?  Not on the pet thread?  It is, after all, a tv show.

Hey on the comment about the Pomeranian!! Killer was half Pomeranian and half long haired Chihuahua. The mix cancelled out the bad in both. he only got the good!!

I am looking forward to this show too, just to see what it is about. The ads show what looks to be an aggressive Yorkshire Terrier. Tootsie is one, but not the least aggressive.

Re: The Voice,  Gil, I didn't see that attitude, but then, I miss a lot of stuff.

Highlight of the evening, for me, Cyndi Lauper and last season's Beverly McFarlan doing a wild duet.  I wish they'd get Annie Lennox on the show as a guest.  She's my hero  Smiley !

The Kansas opera guy survived to mangle another song, next week.  He'll probably do another of my favorites, "Hallelujah", in faux Italian accents.  I think Doodler stayed up all night voting for him, just to be  Doodler-ish.

Cee Lo's two were the worst to go up against each other.  Both were on line for winning the season, IMO.

We're up to audience participation already?

I actually stopped watching even the reruns on Sats and Suns about two weeks ago. Tonight, tried to switch over to see if Chris made it through... SOOO glad you relieved my mind.

Watching tv is getting more and more frustrating with the nearly hysterical rush for anything of import to interrupt regular viewing.  Tornados, I can understand.  Also hurricanes.  But in metropolitan areas, they ought not to bother us, past scroll lines, on weather in the far boondocks.
The NBC affiliate has been interrupting for special reports here.  There is a thunderstorm in Cleopus.  I have lived here all my life and never heard of this place.  Suffolk, also, some storms, and I do agree they need to get the horsies into the barns.  But a scroll would be just fine.
Now, it's massive lightning, over the Great Dismal Swamp.  Seriously, this has gotten out of hand.

Oh, yeah.  I wonder if the tv schedule is gonna be bumped by the Prez's speech to the nation.  In which he will most likely note:  he is in Afghanistan.  Thanks, but we can get that from CNN.
They are overdoing these interrruptions.  And I fear for the integrity of the full episode of The Voice  Angry.  Keep it up and I will vote for Ron Paul.

I absolutely agree with you. We get weather bulletins for 6 (SIX) states! Some of the places are 4-5 hours from here. Now I know there probably aren't too many tv stations in Hazard and Harlan, but I visited there in the 60s and they already had radio service. The weather crew has to take up space on the screen with a scroll across the top or bottom and a map in one corner (with the station logo in the other) and that's if they don't interrupt the program entirely. And have you noticed... commercials are always weather free? Our local weather guys have so much nifty new equipment to play with, it is just beyond them to NOT share with the viewing public. I send nasty emails to the weather addresses, the news producers AND the station managers. And since I have several email addresses, I'm not the only one complaining.

Another dog whisperer? Yuck. Have to tell you, if someone is applying for one of my pups and tells me they already have a "trainer" lined up to "help," they have to go elsewhere for their puppy. For me that's the equivalent to having a child psychiatrist standing by in the delivery room.

I've just been watching this on utube and I'd love to know what you all think of it it. It's a clip from the Graham Norton show and features Miriam Margolyes, a Brit actress who is absolutely fearless in what she says - and all on live tv. Hilarious.

OMG!  That was hilarious!  <3 her.

Andy, Ms. Margolyes was a guest star on Merlin.  I'm going to pop this link over there too.  So adorable.  I'm in stitches!

Glad you like it D. I'd rec watching everything you can find of her, especially one of the other GN shows. She guests with Stanley Tucci who can hardly believe his ears. and talks about sucking someone off. It's hilarious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeopD53J8MM&feature=relmfu

Well, news, real news, from CBS : a new reality show, later this month, Dogs in the City  !!!!!  Yay !!!!!
.

"The dog days of summer are on CBS: The network has found its answer to the Cesar Millan-helmed series "The Dog Whisper" with 'Dogs in the City.'

"The reality series features New York City dog guru Justin Silver, 'a master at resolving issues between canines and their owners — no matter whose behavior is at fault,' according to the press release. He also seems to enjoy a little tongue action with man's best friend judging from the above photo.

"It's executive produced by "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's" Carol Mendelsohn. And it's not the first time the network has tried to get cuddly with pooches. In 2008, it unveiled "Greatest American Dog," a 10-episode competition series (it lasted one season).

"The series will premiere May 30."

I'd add some comments about my skeptical view of Cesar Millan, but I'm not sure it would be relevant in this section.  If someone starts a discussion elsewhere, please let me know.

I'm glad to hear about this one, though I usually watch half of any new reality show and then Never Again.  They have an interesting opportunity to
compare/contrast different dogs and their owners, without being totally cliche-ridden. If my middle-size urban area is any example, there are little old ladies with pit bulls and burly fortyish guys who wheel into the dog-park with a tiny mix-breed tucked into their leather jackets.  Although if the show is limited to people who can afford to hire trainers to solve their problems, the variety will be more limited.

As for Milan, I've watched a lot of his shows, and seems to me that if you watch how he actually works with the dogs he's not that far off from many "treat-oriented" trainers, without the treats.  I use treats, I should say, but I suspect Milan has mellowed a bit in recent years.  He's like Judge Judy and others; he has his trademark schitck, or however that's spelled, and has to live with it.

Am sure Killer got the best of both breeds, Linda !

Meanwhile, two, here, have seemed to suggest Dogs in the City might be another Dog Whisperer, but since I never saw that, I can only hope the new show has none of what was objectionable.  If it turns out to be a "dog", at least it will be no challenge to my catching up on the summer re-runs  Smiley.
I hope they do at least one Daschund.  Used to be baffled by their very existence, and now I really love them !

A number of my puppy peeps have taken advantage of opportunities to visit tapings of Milan's show and without exception, came away totally disillusioned with him and his training methods.  MY objection to the few times I saw him... Oprah was one... is he edits to make his approach look easy and quick, anybody can do it. And it just is not the case. Plus I am not in the "make sure the dogs know you're the boss" theory of control. My dogs ALL understand I'm the alpha bitch around here and they are still allowed on the furniture, in the bed at night and I insist they pass through portals BEFORE I do. The trick to handling dogs (and a lot of people) is to be smarter than they are. Something I doubt about Milan.
