not exactly on target, but how many of you watched "8" on streaming video last night?  all around brilliant, from the idea, to the script, to the casting, to the direction, to the acting.  some actors stood out, different actors to different viewers it seems, but the ensemble gave all, and as a bonus all the litigants were present as well.

if you haven't watched it, its on youtube, and i don't believe it is geoblocked.  its out there for the whole world to see.  and to think, if the prop 8 proponents had not worked so hard to suppress the trial tapes, they would have run on cspan where a negligible number of people would have sat through the whole trial.  you can't hold down the truth, especially when that truth effects a really creative population... and god knows,  glbt folks are, and have had to be, creative.

Re: The Voice
Blake is certainly into these young girls and if I were Melissa/Miranda/Marilyn? I'd really keep my eye on him, especially in a couple years.

Again, The Voice
I agree with half the judge's choices.

The Voice meets Grimm.

I admit to being grumpy from a very busy day, and much looking forward to some great tv, but even so, it was only there to find...a fiend incarnate.  I have loathed Alanis Morrisette nearly forever.  She is pretty, apparently sweet, but irreversibly grotesque for her slimy songs that mocked people's deaths and even life itself.  So, there she is, with no-butt Adam Levine, who cannot, himself, sing, as a coach to one of his team.  No sudden elongated proboscis and fangs, but still what she ever was, a pretty face selling.....yeccht.  If that's Levine's idea of a cool friend, he's off my list.  And even one of the other judges used one of her songs.
Mr. Adam then proceeded to boot off a spectacularly unique talent, Chris.  A two-fer.  Way to go, dude.  Argh.

Smash somewhat calmed me down, but it was mostly here and there.

So much of what I regularly watch seems to be in reruns right now--and other options available have not seemed appealing--that I've been sticking with a set of discs a friend sent me that he recorded of the old 1960s Western Iron Horse, with Dale Robertson.

TCM showed Some Like It Hot Saturday night, but I just wasn't in the mood for it. Didn't get back from dinner until after it started, anyway.

FOX aired two hours of ALCATRAZ last night, so I had some new programming to view!

There were some awesome match-up/contests between teammates on The Voice last night. I wonder why the judges all seem to pit their best competitors against each other instead of trying to weed out some of the lesser talented members of their teams.

But Smash... the same ol' same ol' even if some of the numbers add entertainment value. Who did not EXPECT the camera to pan up to the teenager hanging out the window watching his mother get it on with the male friend? (Same thing with the mom's business partner's assistant hearing her confession about the same friend. Let's see, since they dislike each other, do you suppose the assistant is going to spill the beans at some time?)

Am not sure they were putting their best up against their best.  Seemed more like they wanted to narrow down the types of styles, and so not be overbalanced. Blues vs. blues; rock vs. rock, etc.   In some cases, it did seem they were trying to knock off some weak choices, and it sort of worked.
But the first guy off, Chris, had incredible range and unique Springsteen-like quality, and, oops, out he goes.  The army gal also had great strength and range, but, nooo....out she went, too.
I want Adam Levine to visit Portland.  When the critters are out  Smiley.  Blake, maybe.  Christina, am more and more respecting, which I never thought would happen.  Back to CeeLo.  Had thought the cat signified domesticity and sensuality.  More like the mark of a sybarite.  Not that there's any wrong there.  Just saying....

Tony, you are so funny!

Opera against whatever that gal sings? Not like vs like.
The two you reference who went home were the two I thought should have stayed, along with the girl up against Blake's teenager.
I'm wondering if the Army sargeant was a little too normal looking, not exotic enough.

And speaking of that, where ARE all those different looking competitors like last year? Maybe the JUDGES haven't seen the contestants before the blind auditions, but the producers have and it IS an invitation only contest.

All I know is that I was in a complete panic that Jordis was going to be OUT!  She was terrible but I am so on her side!!  If she can pull it together...she can win this thing!  I think I was most surprised that Chris didn't stay. The rest I was good with.  I think the 17 year old has a unique voice so I am glad she stayed because I want to see what Blake can do with it.

You're right, but he's the odd man out, there being no other Pavarotti wannabees. Seems like he was used to bump out the other. I don't think he'll go far, as he doesn't, so far, seem to be able to adapt well.  If he can do an Annie Lennox song, or whatever that "Ooo, baby, baby.....baby, baby.." song on the tv commercial with forest animals is, then there's cause to reconsider.
Doodler, am glad both you and Passion favored Chris, the first one gone.  I really thought he was someone who could go big.

You're right about Operaman. He really "feels" uncomfortable with normal songs... definitely NOT Il Divo material! But he probably has the best voice on the show.

And why is no one addressing my twice asked question about the odd ball competitors who are so lacking this season?! Or do y'all think this group is odd enough without them?

Well, the two rock singing brothers are kind of Beavis and Butthead.  The sandwich maker is unusual in that he is real.  And there's the guy from the Mickey Mouse club.  Just how odd-ball do you want them, Doodler?  Hang in there....they may morph to your standards soon enough.

And they all look normal. The people last year were pretty off the wall... weight, tatoos, bald headed women. Come on, this years, all these contestants would be perfectly at home on Idol, just waiting for their make over. Did the "different" people with talent get all used up the first time around? I cannot believe that they were not weeded out by those deciding who got initations.

I think there are some oddballs.  The bald guy with the eyeliner, the deli worker, the girl with the half long hair/short hair, the dreadlocks girl, the kind of frumpy looking woman whose voice doesn't match her looks, the rock boys look odd.  I guess I don't think this group looks any different than the last group.  So, I guess I just skimmed over your comment because that hasn't been my impression this year.  I really enjoy the show and think they have some great talent.  I want it to move on out of the battle rounds and get started now!
