Folks,  would one of you  (maybe more than one actually) take pity on a relative computer illiterate and tell me step by step how to get my new avatar out of photobucket and into my profile?  And when I say step by step I mean it.  If you think it's too boring for everybody you can send the info to me by PM

Many thanx in advance.

no problem, todd. it is really easy. you have your avatar in photobucket already ? what you need to do is copy the adress of your avatar in photobucket. right under the avatar pic in your photobucket folder, you'll find a box that says "URL". copy the text in there (it will be something like "http://www.photobucket.com/....".

now, go to the forum and click on "profile" (top of the page, right under the link to the ultimate brokeback guide, blue button). on the navigation bar on the left in your profile settings, chose "Forum Profile Information". a table will open, it will say "edit profile" on top. in the first row, you simply have to mark "I have my own pic:" and paste the URL of your avatar in the box beside it. you can add a personal text under you avatar, you just have to type it in the box below. now you just have to scroll down and click "change profile" and your avatar should show up !

if you have any problems, just pm me !

I must be looking right past something obvious.  Could somebody tell me what it is?  [And N.B. this bit of non-table text is centered, tho' not delineated by a pair of 'center' tags -- why?]

Well, you said it yourself!!  The non-table-but-centered text that I neglected to address must've been some holdover from the "jungle" of center formatting you had.

the whole formatting within the board doesn't follow the same logic html formatting does. it is a very simplified version of html. centering the whole thing is all i can recommend. i tried to indroduce different formats into one table for the formatting of TDS, but it didn't work out so i had to put the differently formatted parts in different tables....

Thanx for asking and yes, I've had no luck.  I PM'd desertrat to ask if she had any further ideas.  Do you have any suggestions?  I tried all 3 addresses that photobucket supplies under the photo and none of them worked.  Is it possible my photo is too large?  I've shrunk it but maybe not enough.

Not really.  The forum will squish about any sized photo of any dimensions into that little 65x65 window.  Now... if it IS too large, we'll address that one second.  Wink

Thanks Martina for your help on this!

Hi there. Sorry I am not a new member, but an old non-techo one.

I have TWO questions.

First: I cannot find anywhere on the site map where as a registered member I can find the profile of another member, for example one who might never have posted before, but whose user name I know. (I know how to access it by clicking on their name when I see their posting; but I mean when I do not know where to find their posting. In the Bettermost forum, they have a clear area where registered members can search for other members. I did try using the SEARCH facility, but it did not seem helpful in this regard.

Second: Again at Bettermost, they have a facility whereby when I look at the index of messages in my own PM box, a little monitor glows green when they are online; so I can see at a glance if my correspondent is online.  Again, I know that I can see that if I go to their personal profile, but I wanted to be able to see it at a glance without going elsewhere.  So I guess that this question is really something along the lines of AM I ABLE to "import" this sort of user option into that PM message index?

I would be grateful for replies to these questions, and thank you in advance for any which might be forthcoming.

Hey JohnnyX,

The member search feature is available on the home page of the forum -- down at the bottom left is a Member List - searchable list of all registered members.

No, you cannot change the behavior of the forum to include the Online indicator for each user, so currently you must visit the user's profile to see whether they are online or not.  For some reason that option was not enabled for the DC forum and I don't know the history of that.  But you are the first to bring the issue up to me...  I'll inquire.

Thanks!

An alternate method, at least just to find people online, is to go to the very bottom where it says Users Online, click the green icon to the left, and then when the list comes up click the header name User, and that will give a list of people online in alphabetical order, or reverse alphabetical order, depending on how many times you click it.

what file format is the file you downloaded ? if it was a xxxxx.torrent file, then you ownly downloaded the "directory" to download the file. you will need a torrent program (bitlord, etc.) to open the file and download the actual music file....

Desertrat, thank you for coming to my rescue. As well as the file, I downloaded, saved and ran http://www.bittorrent.com/download.html - does this count as a torrent programme?
Now the file appears in the BitTorrent table with a read horizontal bar under 'Progress' section when I click the BitTorrent icon. Does this mean it is properly downloaded?  What do I have to do next?

Many thanks Kiss
