I can almost 'hear' AP saying they were "not quite twenty"

Sounds to me like she was merely pointing out that both were young men, to highlight their lack of experience which would certainly have bearing upon their upcoming relationship. (no pun intended)

Ennis/Jack - the only pairing that's real

If they don't understand love, don't get angry. Pity them.

No, Stan, she said that they were both teenagers.

But that wasn’t what was being discussed on the previous page.

Just happen to have to ss open, as always....

It would be Jack Twist's second summer on the mountain, Ennis's first. Neither of them was twenty.

That's right.  Smiley

No reference to whether one of them was older than the other at all.

Actually, out here in the wilds, colloquially speaking, the expression "neither of them was <some age>"  is understood to mean "close to being <some age>"...

At first read, I thought probably they were under twenty.  But upon reading again it occurred to me that maybe one was under twenty and one was close to twenty.

Well, that opened up a whole new can of worms.  Were they under twenty?  Or merely close to twenty?

I brought it up with my shrink and he seemed to think that under twenty and close to twenty was pretty much the same thing, unless “neither of them was twenty” meant that they were closer to, say, twenty-five or twenty-four, neither of those numbers being twenty, which goes along with “neither of them was twenty”.

So we tossed that around for a while, and finally settled on cutting back on my ambien, since I am sleeping better these days.

They existed in our hearts, and always will.

It's nice to see some activity in here after such a long time…BUT I think we've firmly established that neither Ennis nor Jack was as old as twenty at the time of the Brokeback summer. How about we move on from here, and please remember to be polite no matter how much hair you're tearing out on your side of the monitor!

Please note that I deleted several posts on this page by various people because they were either a. sarcastic in an unfriendly way or b. straying very wide of the topic.

 Cheesy

Being a new Brokie, please tell me this discussion wasn't as bad as the discussion on the SNIT tread: Jack said "It's all right" - No, he didn't - Yes, he did and he also said "I'm sorry" - No, he didn't...  Wink
Believe me, when I first read that tread, I 'laughed so hard I almost cried'!

Oops, WAY off topic, I'm sorry.
