Another New Year reveler wearing the traditional sinh (skirt).   Smiley

I love this. She looks so dignified.

Oh, and I forgot, there is a bear conservation park before you get to the falls.  You walk past it to get to the water.  It is a really big enclosure and they rescue bears from the surrounding area.

You come on a bear?

thanks sonja, and yes, it is the heads.  i agree, yuck!

that wall was an outside temple wall but there were plenty of inside temple walls decorated the same way.  it is very pretty!  this is at Wat Xieng Thong.
Laos is the only place i have seen temples decorated in that specific manner.

the throne room of the national palace is also decorated like this.  (not sure which was done first.)  the throne room used to be very plain but the last king of Laos, well the son of the last king of Laos, was awaiting his coronation and was really excited for it.  so he had a french man come over and decorate the throne room in this style, along with having a new elephant chair made for his throne.  unfortunately, the Laos communist party took over the country before he could be crowned.  poor guy.  all that anticipation for nothing!

Wow, your stories and everything you tell about your pictures is so interesting, Beth!

Yes, that wall is really very pretty, and I like the style a lot.

Don't manage to ketchup here now (commentwise), will have to do so later.

Just wanted to say how much I loved Sara's Australian pics and Linda's Yosemite series. Both fabulous !!

A new series of pics from Myanmar.

Travelling down the Areyawaddy, one of Asia's mightiest rivers, on Christmas day 2011. In the early morning hours.

It was quite chilly, but we were mesmerized by the colours and by the awakening of the mysterious Asian landscape.

These pics were taken from 5 am onwards.
