Some bugs for sale at the local market (for eating).  I am not an adventurous eater so I just took a picture.

Eeewww.... Cheesy

Great picture though.

More country as we floated down the river.

Stunning.

Wonderful pictures from Laos, Beth. Looking forward to the rest.  Smiley

That was part of the fun!  A lot of people were sitting on the window sills with their legs dangling out, but the boys were NOT allowed to!

It looks dangerous to me. Of course you couldn't let them.... I would hold on to S and B even if they were looking out the windows.  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

More Laos

We went to Kuangsi Waterfall, a really beautiful place.  This is the top of the falls.  We actually started at the bottom and walked up, a not very hard walk.  The color of the water is beautiful but I'm not sure what makes it this particular shade of blue.

You could swim in it which some people did.  And there was one spot where a tree branch reached out over the water and it had a rope swing.  Some people were swinging into the water with a big splash.  My sister and I did go in, although just in rolled up pants and shorts.  There were signs all over stating that conservative dress was required.  Most people respected this but I was shocked by one woman who had on a very skimpy european style bikini.  The bottom was not only skimpy in back but also in front.   Shocked  I couldn't believe she would be so disrespectful.  But the water felt so good to be in!!

These are some of the pools at the bottom of the falls.  Again, we were there at the end of dry season so the falls is much stronger and deeper during rainy season.  It would be really cool to go back then and see it.  Oh, and you can picnic at the top of the falls.  They have picnic tables set up and you can cater in a lunch.  We didn't do that but I definitely would the next time I go!  There is also a restaurant up there.

Oh, and I forgot, there is a bear conservation park before you get to the falls.  You walk past it to get to the water.  It is a really big enclosure and they rescue bears from the surrounding area.

This bear was just sitting on this pole the whole time were there, about 15 minutes or so.  Just hanging out.  Perfectly balanced.   Cheesy

We also went to Pak Ou cave.  It is filled with hundreds, if not thousands, of Buddha images.  You get there by boat.  In this picture, if you look closely, you can see on the rock that almost touches the white staircase a white line painted onto the rock.  (it really is almost impossible to see.)  Anyway, in 2008 there was so much flooding that that is the water line mark for that year.  The Mekong flooded so badly that year that the water rose that high.  I found that impossible to imagine!
