Fishing.  I think it is interesting how the cultures all sort of run together.  The hat that one man is wearing I would consider very "Vietnamese."  But these cultures and countries have been so interwoven over so many centuries I suppose it is inevitable that some aspects run from one to another.

The Laos flag  (I asked our guide the difference between Laos and Lao.  He said Laos is the country, Lao is the people)

As I mentioned, it was New Year when we were there.  This girl (and her mother behind her) were headed to a temple to release the bird (in the small pink cage attached to the stick) and putting the paper strips on piles of sand.  Even though Laos is a communist country it has very deep and strong Buddhist traditions.

As we were riding down the Mekong, we could see what looked like a wild forest/jungle fire.  But our guide told us it was a farmer clearing his land to plant rice.  Of course, it was burning when we traveled down in one direction and was still burning when we came back the other direction several hours later.  I'm not sure how one controls such a burn.   Roll Eyes

Some bugs for sale at the local market (for eating).  I am not an adventurous eater so I just took a picture.
