Now that DADT has been repealed, we've locked the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" thread and have started this thread for future discussion. Enjoy!

The original thread is here

I didn't realize they got married at Leonard Matlovich's gravesite. Wonderful.

Yeah, and I really enjoy seeing them display their tattoos!

They make a very attractive couple.

Thanks for the link, Fritz and the pics, Chuck. I remember their marriage at Matlovich's gravesite but had not seen the Santorum piece.

The original DADT thread lasted five and a half years. It's one of the joys of my life that it proved obsolete.

I began to wonder if the US would ever outgrow that ridiculous policy. Finally, yes.

I decided to go back and read some of the early posts on the original thread;
posts that were made without the knowledge that DADT would be history in
the coming years, and it was interesting.

Now that it's been repealed and implemented 4 months ago, I'd like to know
what those politicians who were so afraid that things were going to hell if it
passed have to say for themselves.  Or maybe I don't.

Anyway, this post from the time of Obama's inauguration made me smile again.

Quote
from the Military's Stars & Stripes reporter:

President, first lady outshine entertainment
stars at the military’s inaugural celebration

By Kevin Baron, Stars and Stripes
Mideast edition, Thursday, January 22, 2009

Comedian George Lopez served as master of ceremonies, and promptly
joked that one of Obama’s first orders of duty would be to end the "don’t ask,
don’t tell" policy for gays in the military.

"So tonight, feel free to dance with anyone you like!" he quipped, drawing a
mix of nervous chuckles and a few cheers.

You can be sure that they won't admit they were wrong; they'll say what they think their political base wants to hear. Just like Romney who just said he wants to defend DOMA because the Obama Administration won't.

Like Andy Borowitz said, Romney will undo everything that the Obama administration did. He'll bring Osama bin Laden back to life.

I think you've hit on something that's changed in our country.  There was a time that
however one might have disagreed with some kind of a major policy like women voting
or the military being desegregated or abortion rights or whatever, that it would remain
in effect for at least the foreseeable future.  Now it's like--the Health Care bill?  We'll
get rid of it.  Gay marriage in California?  We'll nullify it.  Repeal DADT?  We'll put it back
into effect.  There's no sense that even if the Government does do something that
it'll remain in effect.
