This is a quote from a NY Times editorial, titled "The Republican Contest"

"...It was all exactly backward. Americans are angry about income redistribution — from the middle class to the tiny sliver at the top, not from the top down. Leveraged buyouts were only one factor in the growth of the income gap. Also to blame was a host of benighted economic policies advocated by Republicans for the last 30 years.

...The solution is policies that promote growth and help the middle class, not what the Republican hopefuls want. Mr. Obama said it well on Monday night: 'We can’t go back to this brand of you’re-on-your-own economics.' You couldn’t tell that by listening to Mr. Romney prattle about a merit-based economy and call for lowering taxes and cutting spending.

Would you buy Girl Scout cookies this year?

I usually get my cookies at the dollar store.

What does it matter what I would do? A lot of people think those programs are charity.

I've heard this comment before, usually from the hypocritical politico-'Christian' Republican contingent.  I attribute it to their apparent desire to absolve themselves from thought.  Maybe if they ever did give a thought to the consequences of their greed it might be possible to realize that if it weren't for unemployment, social security, and medicare, millions of people would die painful, neglected deaths and if you think the streets are crowded with the homeless now, think - if you are able - how your town would be with starving, medically deprived people - men, women, and children, every race (the majority are white), from every representative 'religion' on the spectrum - sleeping on the ground outside, prey to every scumbag in the neighborhood.  I bet Jesus is rolling over in his grave.

And, therefore, any opinion that doesn't agree with the majority opinion is hypocritical, greedy and invalid.
And the only good Republican is a dead one.

Put the Mint Girl Scout Cookies in the freezer!  They are so yummy and last forever...well not forever because you will eat an entire package at a time! Girl Scouting has always been such a great organization for acceptance.  Boy Scouts is a completely different organization!

I've been boycotting Girl Scout cookies ever since they itroduced the revolting mint variety.  It seems to be the only one available for years now and I can't stomach them.  Also the fact that they last forever is not very comforting, lol!

I can put enough meaning in my own words that I don't need to have things attributed to me which I don't say.  All ideas have their place in the sun; some work and some can be shown to be somewhat more emotional-based than sensible.  I have voted for a few Republicans, local Republicans to be sure, but there are Republicans worth voting for.  I think it goes something like this: 'Judge not lest ye be judged.'

Oilgun....we need to talk!  There are many varieties of GS cookies......and I didn't mean they last forever and ever.  Just that they last if they are in the freezer!  The Mint cookies were introduced in 1951 so you have been out of the GS cookie field for quite a while!  Ha!  (Can you tell I was a Girl Scout for 16 years!)  LOL!

oh for heaven's sake.  another little grenade.

All we are asking is that you own your opinions or not.  If you mean what you say, we have asked you to explain it.  If you want to duck responsibility for what you say, then why bother?  Why ask us to bother?

and ETA, your words above are hyperbole, meant to change the subject.  You said it, but we didn't.

Well said, fofol.

It sounds dramatic, but that is exactly what cutting welfare and social security benefits would really mean.

It sounds like it is a good job Jesus rose again, because otherwise he would be spinning.

My point exactly.
And a few days ago when I asked if there was any Republican people HERE could support as president, what response did I get?

My reply to your post was poorly worded as your post had little (little) to do with Republians in general. Just Christian Republians.

Why does it matter if it is MY opinion or one I've had expressed to me? I usually find opinions that differ from my own to be interesting and they often have merit. Many are worth considering, even if, in the end, nothing in my mind is changed. Jumping on the bandwagon is not an exercise I excel at, no matter WHO is already up there.

If I were an American and HAD to support a Republican I think I would support Ron Paul despite the fact that he's a, gasp, libertarian.  He's the only one who is anti-war and thinks the "war on drugs" is a failure.  Of course, he would get the JFK treatment before ever getting elected president.

Interestingly, he's popular with the military.
