I'm sorry, but it seems you don't understand anything at all. It surprises me because I respect you.

To quote morrobay:  wtf?

I don't know how my post to you leads to this assessment.

(Of course if I don't understand anything at all, I guess I wouldn't.)

our soldiers are trained to kill and when they do, we're outraged...

And much of the outrage stems from an awareness of the total absurdity of the belief that anyone can fight a war with "rules" and that if one powerful country, which made the fatal mistake of going down the path of empire, would just wise up, cow patties would turn to Godiva chocolate.  The blue screamie was a comment on how quickly two predictable reactions popped up::

1)  'It's that Secretary of State Clinton.  Yep, that's it.'

2)  'I'm so glad my own country isn't like that. Why can't everyone be like us?'

The fact is we're a violent species and our own worst enemies.  I do understand that much, despite my incorrect nationality.

I should explain, sorry about that.  The first part of your post was right on and I appreciate your advice.  I was indeed becoming perpetually pessimistic to the point of becoming depressed.  Luckily, I saw the movie Pina today and it  snapped me out of it.  What a sublime film. "Dance, dance otherwise we are lost" is the film's tagline and it made me remember tha art is the answer and that's what will keep me sane in this increasingly insane world.

As for not understanding anything was in reference to this:

Quote
When it comes to light I don't think the perpetrators, the marines in this case, should be made total scapegoats
for it, and it's right for a Government to come out and condemn the actions (so we can bend toward our better
natures, say) but there also has to be an understanding of what "war" can do over time to people involved in it.

What you say may be true put but it doesn't address my point that the US government on the one hand invades countries illegally, murders innocent civilians and incarcerates people indefinitely (not to mentioning stripping all its citizens of their rights with NDAA) and that's just dandy and on the other they go on damage-control when a video of some rednecks pissing on dead bodies surfaces.  It blows my mind.  I know war is hell, but all these wars are illegal and immoral and all for oil.  To me it has become so obvious that this so-called war on terror was designed to be without end and that the military only serves the 1%.

Did you mean LEATHERnecks? Or do you really mean red necks? If the latter, do you have something to base that on... like maybe one Marine was Billy Bob and one Jimmy Joe and one Bubba?

I didn't say there would be peace, I said the US would have no enemies.  Let me change that to way fewer enemies, I forgot about France, lol!

So, Sarah, Duchess of York, can't leave the UK, for fear of being extradited to Turkey, which has charged her with trespassing and invasion of privacy, for her going there to do a documentary on brutality in their orphanages.  They had refused to co-operate, so, she broke their rules.
What a typically sadistic and backward attitude from a backward country of wogs.  Oh.  Wait.  Didn't we allow Bradley Manning to be held naked, and subject to psychological torture, for also being in the general area of informing the public?
That is the plan, of course, to destroy the right of people to decide for themselves.  Pettifogging rules, of trespass, breaching privacy, and the promiscuous classifying of everything that might embarrass.  Then you can arrest people for providing information to which they have a right, if they are to choose how they are governed.

It is a new Iron Curtain.  A new Berlin Wall.  Meant to keep us misinformed or uninformed. Under the guise of national security and privacy rights.

Mr. Obama:  Tear down this Wall !

He won't.  Which is so false, on his part, that I have changed my voting plans.  If there is a chance for a Democratic congress being elected, I would vote for Mitt Romney for Prez, as he is so flip-floppy, we might nudge him back to New England-ish moderation. He'd stink, of course, but it would be a different stink.

The present selling out of our right to free-flow of information, sold out by an alleged expert in constitutional law, is too much for me.

Tony don't hold your breath. I see the Dems loosing the Senate or at a 50/50 split but gaining grown in the House. The House will still be in the hands of the GOP, and this has to be contributed to their hands at redistricting states after the 2010 elections. They made it more difficult for Dems to regain control, for more Dems will have to fight Dems to get elected. So, if Romney gets elected The GOP pretty much will have complete control once again. This is my take on it.  Angry

Just a few thoughts about the Marine Corps scandal.

We used to kill the Taliban because they harbored those who planned the 9/11 attacks.  Times have changed.  The Taliban see no future in hanging out with international terrorists.  They just want to enforce their version of living on their own country (which we helped them with, BTW, when they fought the Russians, to effect the same end; we were their allies).
So, back to the war in Afghanistan.  It isn't over our national security so much, anymore.  In fact, we are engaged in negotiations with the Taliban, something we refused, rightfully, to do, with Al Qaida.
And where did these killings occur?  Afghanistan.  Not Cleveland.  We were in their country.  Granted, they are ignorant and ugly. But it IS their place of birth.

So then, having killed them, isn't urinating on their corpses even more sick than the funeral venom vomited up by the Westboro Baptist Church on OUR veterans interments?

Those marines shouldn't, IMO, go to prison. Or get a tap on the wrist.  They should be prosecuted, given minor brig time, and then kicked out.  More importantly, all the rest of our forces there should come home, and honorably.

Bring the boys home, before we are dishonored more, ourselves, and before we have warped them so badly, they can never re-adjust.

I would hope you're wrong, Tom, but I think it is more probable you are right.
But, on the off-chance both of us are too pessimistic, I still can't vote for Obama, except to offset a Republican congress.  He just....stinks, on this degrading of our right-to-know issue.

It's the time honored nickname for a Marine.
And I'm willing to bet not one of those urinating in this instance is an uneducated white farm laborer from the South.

I understand John Huntsman is dropping out of the Presidential race and will be supporting Mitt Romney.
Well, we will see but I imagine it is true.
