All this in the Bay Area of CA.
The local farmer's market has tomatoes for about $1.25 lb and I bought gas last week for $4.17 a gallon. The cheapest I have found it here is $4.12 a gallon. Strawberries are in abundance out here and so very good. About .99 for the little basket.  My tomato plants aren't even close to producing yet.

George Zimmerman's bond revoked by judge, 48 hours to surrender in Trayvon Martin killing

(CBS/AP) SANFORD, Fla. - A judge Friday revoked bond for George Zimmerman, and gave the neighborhood watch volunteer who killed Florida teen Trayvon Martin 48 hours to surrender.

Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. said that Zimmerman engaged in "material falsehood" about money in issuing his ruling.

About an hour before the ruling came, prosecutors in the second-degree murder case again Zimmerman had filed a new motion requesting the bond revocation. They contended Zimmerman's wife knew about the donations he had collected through a PayPal account, but didn't mention the money at his bond hearing.

Zimmerman's PayPal account collected more than $200,000, his attorney later revealed.

Local strawberries have been ready and available for some time here, but we just had the warmest winter on record. First cutting of hay was done 3-6 weeks ago... depending on how brave the individual farmer was when it came to planting early. Usually, people would be just thinking about the first cut about now.

Just come and take a look around - wish it were true for Britain.... But it's not the good food (of which there is plenty Cheesy) that's the problem. And you have only to look in some people's supermarket trolleys to see why.

And my daughter in Australia says that the same thing is starting to happen even in their sporty outdoorsy culture.

Yes, you're right about those supermarket carts (we call them carts or carriages).  It just amazes me how full they are with real junk food, and the ones pushing them are as big as a house.   And the gall they have!  They won't move to let anyone get by, no way will they move over.
Then - to make matters worse - they pull out the "cards" so the Government pays.  Yup.  And the U.S. is sooo sensitive to them that they have changed the 'stamps' to 'cards' - so they won't be embarrassed.  It's unbelievable.

I'm sorry to hear though that it's happening in the UK and even in AU.

Am, as usual, befuddled over these emoticon developments.  So much criticism of Kathy for her devil one, and, yes, I had always thought it was more appropriate for the "Ignorant straight woman" sex thread, than here, but, hey, whatever.
So.  Kathy goes to several posts devoid of any this and thats.  And, then, from an unexpected direction, the above?
I give up  Tongue : the devil image is dead; long live the emoticon?  Et tu, M_I ?

Gosh, I reserve the devil emotocon for cheney/bush.  It means 'evil'.  I didn't know it means otherwise.

I don't know what $1.18 a liter translates to in gallons. I do know my gas price here is WAY under most of the US... I don't know why that is, but I'm happy about it.

Tomatoes are always higher than 99 cents a pound around here, no matter the time of year. Seldom buy them from  roadside stands, where they are usually cheaper.

Most gasoline sold in Europe and Canada is by the liter.  Simple metric conversion is about 3.8 liters equals 1 U.S. Gallon.   So $1.18 x 3.8 makes gas there about $4.48 per gallon.   Average price of tomatoes (this time of year) in the U.S. is about 99 cents per lb. or about  0.803441 EURO as of the close of markets today.  Grin

I am so glad I don't live in your neck of the woods. People are pretty civil here. MY main complaint at the grocery (besides prices) is all the STUFF in the aisles, not the people. It makes it difficult to get down the aisle if there is someone coming the other way, especially since the local stores have gone to oversized carts. They are more difficult for me to manage. With so many people laid off, and benefits gone, a lot more than normal are on food stamps. I don't begrudge them that.

My cart is never full of junk food, so I know I wasn't one of "them" who got in your way in the aisles, Kathy.  I accepted food stamps a few years ago when my white collar job was outsourced to china and the economy tanked.

You are very fortunate never to have been in a position to need any help.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area on June 1st
is $4.27, which is 5.0 cents less than it was last Friday, according to Triple A.

I remember it clearly.  When the Bilderbergers say jump... if you want to keep your illusion of power, you jump.

Apparently the group of elitist swine have chosen Rubio to be Mitt's VP.

-Marco Rubio? - dear gawd.

Next up, the ceremony of unveiling Bush's portrait in the White House, today, was so cozy and elitist, it left me feeling queasy.  More and more, Obama looks like Bush III.
-I agree. Check the number of innocent lives  (1400+) Obama's drone program has claimed since 2009.
And Obama even has the cheek to JOKE about his killing program (shades of Bush's No WMDs under here. humor?)
As one of the guests on this morning's Up with Chris Hayes (MSNBC) program pointed out, in a segment entitled, "The Killing Program," Pres. Obama has "out-Cheney-ed Dick Cheney, when it comes to murdering innocent people."
As you might expect Mr. Hayes is catching flak from the 'Obama drones' for daring to "speak truth to power"...

Finally, Russia, China, and Iran, are supporting genocide in Syria.  The first two are bad enough.  But Iran seems to be sponsoring death everywhere.  I think we picked the wrong two wars, and did them wrong.  Iran has emerged as a terrorist state, and I have zero sympathy for them if they have to be bombed back into the stone age.  Unfortunately, the timing is awful. I don't claim to know the answer.  But am now certain, Iran seeks to be a Shi'ite world power, and to spread death everywhere in the process.
- Whut? --AFAIK, Iran has not attacked, nor has it ever threatened to attack, any of its neighbors, in ages, if ever.
The only things "spreading" that I can see are US Gov't lies about Iran  since the Axis of Greed (US-UK-Israel) got booted out of Iran's oil fields, during the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

<opinion>
The "problem" with Iran is that, like Iraq, it just happens to be perched atop "American oil."

+If you'll check the PNAC documents, you'll find that Russia, China and Iran were long-ago selected as targets by oil-soaked, neocon pond scum, e.g., Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bush, et.al.

Stan, this is a tough one for me.  As far as who started the Iran/Iraq war, am not sure, except the U.S. sure fed the flames there.  But I do see the Iranians exporting the IEDs everywhere, and they are the main support for Assad's genocide.  And unlike Saddam Hussein's posturing, the Iranians really do want that nuclear capability, and, unlike Pakistan, they don't have the class structure that understands, at the top, how a nuclear war would back-fire.
Am no fan of Bibi Netanyahu, nor of the neo-cons, here.  But am more and more wary of the long-term danger of an Iran that would export nuclear bombs.
It is, for me, serious enough to, this time, err on the side of prevention.  And yet, of course, we really need : more information.

It's well-deserved for them, Kathy, and am sure you know I wasn't critical of any of your posts.  I was just bemused that you dropped them, and went into a very sedate mode, after which they re-appeared.....elsewhere  Cheesy.
This thread is fun, often because of these dinky/donky ways of the frequent posters who are in disagreement.  I considered the snatching of your emoticons dinky/donky, and good humor, in its own way.
