On New Year's Eve, some friends of mine, including Ken & Robert whom some of you
met while visiting, were walking over to my area to meet me as we were going out for
some celebrating and this is what they came upon.

In West Hollywood, Los Angeles County firefighters were called to 1035 N. Sweetzer Avenue around
8:30 p.m. They found an apartment house carport with two vehicles ablaze and spent 25 minutes dousing
the flames, said an on-scene fire inspector.

This is one of the 55 arson fires that have been occuring since two were set Thursday night.  There
were twelve more last night!  The sound of fire trucks and police sirens have become common each
night the past few days, along with helicopters flying around.   One third of these fires have been set
in West Hollywood where I live.  A smattering have been in the valley area and the rest in Hollywood.
One was even set in the underground garage at Hollywood and Highland.

By the way, the above photo is only about 1000 feet from the Silver Spoon restaurant where we
had our after-screening gathering in 2008.  And on another note, the Silver Spoon restaurant closed
its doors on New Year's Eve after thirty years as the Silver Spoon.  (Before that it was the same
style place but was called Theodore's.)

It was sold to people who are going to open another restaurant there, but it will not be a coffee shop.
All the coffee shop style independent restaurants are disappearing. The neighborhood is unhappy about
this, but what can one do.  The owners were tired of running it and new owners want to change it to
a more upscale place and it has a huge valuable asset--a parking lot!  Ring out the old, I guess.
Ring-a-ding-ding.

Well, I found a site that is really sobering. Waitingforthestorm.com basically documents the collapse of the US economy, which is sure to happen once you guys lose the petrodollar, through articles and well produced videos. The site's creator is intelligent, knowledgeable, articulate, charismatic  and kinda hot to boot.

This 2 part video will make me lose sleep tonight:

The total collapse [of] the U.S. economy is inevitable - Here's why
http://www.waitingforthestorm.com/the-total-collapse-the-us-economy-is-inevitable-heres-why-0

Basically it's time to buy weapons and organic seeds (not the Monsanto crap)  Maybe the Maya were right, after all!

As usual, the South, at least Tennessee, is way ahead of the experts... the biggest selling item this Christmas season was... firearms.

On New Year's Eve, some friends of mine, including Ken & Robert whom some of you
met while visiting, were walking over to my area to meet me as we were going out for
some celebrating and this is what they came upon.

From a yahoo news story...

A "prime suspect" arrested in a series of 53 blazes in the Los Angeles area told authorities upon his detention, "I hate America," according to ABC News sources directly involved in the case.

The man is believed to be a German national who may have been motivated by a deportation hearing against his mother that took place in Los Angeles County about a week and a half ago, the sources told ABC News exclusively.

The State Department gave the information to the intelligence and operational task forces involved in the manhunt, according to the sources.

The man being held, identified by police as a "person of interest," is now considered a "prime suspect," the sources said.

The suspect was detained and questioned this morning by a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy who recognized the description of his van as possibly being connected to the fires, police said at a news conference today. After subsequent interviews with police, he was arrested and is currently being processed.

Police seized flammable materials during the search of the man's minivan that matched the materials used in the blazes, according to sources. Police arrested the man following 11 fires ignited overnight, the latest in a series of vehicle and carport fires around Hollywood and West Hollywood, Calif., since Dec. 29.

The suspect is being uncooperative and will be asked to sit for a polygraph as part of the investigation, sources said. Warrants for a search of the suspect's residence were in the process of being executed.

My bad! I hadn't paid attention that it still had 2011 on it.
Short of starting a new thread, I am just changing the title and will carry forward with the new title with 2012 in it.

Well, to be truthful, I don't know!  I think I started doing it so that a post would "stand out" or something.  Then I thought I'd bold the posts but decided that wouldn't be such a good idea; so I went back to the asterisks and it just went on and on.

Tell you what - this is 2012 and a new year, and in honor of BBM and our boys whom I love - I will sincerely try not to use them.  (I've been thinking of it for some time anyway and the new year is a fine place to begin).

it was your ** uniqueness. ** like roco's always centered posts. my all lower case posts, although others do that too (dave for one, lol).

however, with auto correct on my tablet and phone, some capitalized words might erroneously appear. it seems we are effectively able to banish MEMBERS WHO TYPE IN ALL CAPS (thank god!) and the ones that change text color to yellow. even though yellow is a color choice in the color menu.  Cheesy

lyle, that sucks about the silver spoon. i think we will all miss one waiter in particular.  Undecided  and the movie posters that were signed by visiting patrons, some of whom were regulars, throughout the years.

Welcome to the new Kathy!  Kiss

I prefer unstarred, but we could have a new thread to discuss it LOL.  ( Cheesy TOTW?)

Thx for your post, cally.  I've had PM's about the asterisks - pro and con - and can't believe they were noticed so!  (Could be a good TOTW to discuss it).  Wink

I was trying to think why I put them in way back when and can't remember.  I admit I still like them...

sincerely,
