I know, I know...STAY ON TOPIC!

Let me think of a movie and I'll be back.

WITHOUT LOVE (1945).

Not the best Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn movie but it has a knockout performance by Lucille Ball, who is funny, beautiful, chic, and sexy here.  She steals the movie.  Her scenes with Keenan Wynn especially are delightful.  Her part is too small, though; I could have done with less of the Tracy-Hepburn shenanigans.

Oh dear, straight to video?  But the trailer made the movie look so good!  Cheesy
I checked Amazon and the dvd is 'not available at this time'.  Sad

Thanks for the info!

I did some more research:

North America

According to Bassett's blog, the North American release of the film has been delayed for reasons unknown to him.[17] An entry dated February 2, 2012 indicates that the film will likely be released in North America in 2012.

It was announced on March 9th, 2012 that the film would have its Southeast US Regional Premiere as the Opening Night film of Actionfest 2012 on April 12, 2012. [1] This will mark the second year in a row that a film starring James Purefoy and with sword and stunt coordination by Richard Ryan will open Actionfest.

Oilgun it did get shown here:

Action Fest!! Tomorrow, April 12, is the screening of #SolomonKane @ the Diana Wortham Theater in downtown Asheville, NC! Schedule: http://actionfest.com/2012-schedule/

But nothing said about a release in the US.

Very interesting!  It's maybe a case like The Cabin in Woods another movie from 2009 being released in 2012 because of accounting issues and nothing to do with the quality of the film.

According to what a lot of the people that have seen the movie, it is very good and the speculation is that it is a niche movie and was made by an independent studio. But then they said the same think about Brokeback! so who know?

Why do reviewers keep making jokes about the characters participating in the Hunger Games in the film not looking hungry?  Did they not see the film?  They basically take all the selectees to a place where they train them and fatten them up for several weeks.

But when they first get to the training facility they are already in shape. For all the food luxuries they are presented with, Katniss and Peeta are seldom seen eating. And Gale, who remains in the district, has a more studly physique than Peeta, who supposedly possesses great strength.

I saw Salmon Fishing in Yemen with Ewan and Emily (Blunt).  Kristin Scott Thomas was hilarious as a bitchy press secretary.  I think the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are pretty accurate.  I didn't think I would laugh so much....some at the dialogue and sometimes at some of the cheesy metaphors!  I liked it and good timing for me....I needed a movie I could feel good about.  ALso, some hot guys in it!  Ha!

You are correct, sir!

If anyone's read the book, is there a lot of time discussing people being hungry
or the looks of the characters in terms of that or anything?

I went to opening night of the 14th film noir program at the Egyptian
featuring an Alan Ladd double feature.  The first film was THE GREAT
GATSBY (1949).  I did not really care for the film.  It holds true to the
novel with characters and plot points, but it's not true to the spirit of
the novel which is an examination of the times, being the 1920's, it
really is a film noir version of The Great Gatsby, but I couldn't stop
thinking of the contradiction throughout the viewing.  It is set in the
1920's, but the period wasn't at all exemplified in the film, nor were the
locations or the music.

Also, my thoughts about the Daisy character (when I read the novel
a month or more ago) was that she was a right lively character and had
the energy and whims of a girl of the 1920's, but every version of the
film I have seen it is played as though she's a rather uninispired timid
person and someone you don't necessarily care for.  Carey Mulligan is
playing Daisy in the upcoming version and of all the work she's done I
wouldn't say she is in that mode either. Curious.

The second film was even better than I had remembered it, THIS GUN FOR HIRE with Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake and Robert Preston.  It always
surprises me that Robert Preston was around so long ago.  This film
also has a deliciously smarmy performance by Laird Cregar, a favorite of
film noir fans.  The plot involves a lot of double crosses between about
5 characters so it's not easy to summarize, but is readily understandablle
while viewing it.  It's based on a Grahame Green story called This Gun for
Sale. Members of Alan Ladd's family (and Macdonald Carey's) attended the screening.

Watched "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) " last night on DVD with Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, and Christopher Plummer.  The film totally entwined me into its web and "crazy family"  rich antics.  It made me really care about Lisbeth, her extreme talents but not so much about Mikael.  Lisbeth's plight was tough to watch, especially the scene where she is raped... was almost too much.  The overall tone and pace of the film kept my attention, so much that it was difficult to leave the room w/o rewinding or pausing for fear of missing a clue.   Karma baby Karma.

I've not seen the Swedish films yet but I have added them to my must see listing.  The general consensus seems to be the 2009 version of this film is the one to watch first but for many American audiences, this will be their first exposure to the material.   I enjoyed the film!

Today I saw THE CABIN IN THE WOODS.  I was a bit worried because had been shelved for a couple of years, but then I checked Rotten Tomatoes and lo & behold it rates a muscular 91% Fresh.  I said see you Later DEEP BLUE SEA,  some other time, REBELLE (WAR WITCH) and I headed for the woods.  I was not disappointed, it's one of the best horror movies I've seen in a while. Very clever and very entertaining. Some good jump-out-of-your-seat scenes, lots of (welcomed) humour and gallons of blood and gore. The less you know about the film, the better, so just go and see this gem.  The cast is pretty good with a pre-Thor Chris Hemsworth and that cutie from Grey's Anatomy, Jesse Williams:

^^^^

I just saw it too. You are right it was good. Better than I thought it would be. A surprising ending too. Its like a horror movie meets reality TV.

Another one I saw was Salmon Fishing in Yemen. I found it be very nice film. Great performances by all. It was predictable but stilled like it, a feel good movie.
