You're certainly right, in a general manner.

But first of all, there are so many shootings in this movie that - without having seen it and without knowing any characters or their names - I'm pretty sure noone could tell the difference. I didn't give all the characters' names either, for that matter.

And this thread is not about a specific movie which we always subdivide in a with Spoiler alert / without Spoiler alert subthreads, like in the Jake or Heath threads.

It's a thread where forum members exchange POVs about movies they have already seen. This is not the thread about forthcoming movies.

If I had only known that it would bother you so much, I would have never dared to mention any details of TTSS.

I stand corrected, Ingy. Sorry to have spoken up.

I never went for pretty boys. Grin

Me neither. Just one of the many reasons I could never stand Tom Cruise....................

Well, there's pretty, and then there's plastic. Not necessarily the same thing. ...

"Life with Father"
So we are watching similar types of movie lately. We saw "Cheaper by the Dozen a couple weeks ago.
"Life with Father was just okay. I don require a intricate plot for films, particularly when they are more about the characterization. There wasn't a huge plot here and it was a bit light and fluffy except for one part that was really heavy and then completely glossed over. I found both the main characters played by Irene Dunne and Clifton Webb to be distasteful.  I understand that the play was written in the 1st 3'd of the 20th century and that is was about people in the late 1900's but both seemed over the top though i did appreciate his unwillingness to get baptized and was surprised to find that plot line in a movie from this time period. Even the Elizabeth Taylor character was grating.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

William Powell was in the movie with Irene Dunne.  Clifton Webb was in
Cheaper by the Dozen, I think you mean to say.

Did you like that one?  There was a sequel to it and, unlike today, it
was not called Cheaper by the Dozen 2!  Heh!

Has anyone seen Clifton Webb's oscar nominated role in Sitting Pretty
where he plays a male nanny?  Wonderful.

OOps. Yes. That is what I meant. We watched all of the Thin man movies a couple months ago so I am getting confused! :0)
The sequel to Cheaper by the Dozen is "Bells on their Toes" and we have not found it yet. We are finding all these old movies on Netflix and Apple TV. Of course I knew about most of them as I was always fascinated by the Academy Awards and films in general up until more recently. I use to know all the Oscar winners by heart!

PS. We thought Cheaper by the Dozen was okay. I liked it better than Life with Father but not as much as I Remember Mama.

Just this evening I watched Savage Grace with Julianne Moore, Stephen Dillane, Eddie Redmayne and Hugh Dancy.

SPOILER I had to fast forward the incest scene but thought Redmayne especially was excellent.

Redmayne was perfectly cast as Julianne Moore's son. Wonderfully disturbing film.  Now I have a craving for chinese food...

"Sitting Pretty" Robert Young, MaureenO'Hara and CLIFTON WEBB! Smiley

I really enjoyed this one much better than Life with Father and Cheaper by the Dozen. The performances were a bit more real and the dialogue more mature and interesting. Webb was awesome. The events at the end were a bit hurried but in general it all worked well.

Glad you saw that one!

***

Last night I saw BIG MIRACLE.

It's one of those movies that might make you NOT want to see it for
various reasons (like some found Secretariat to be last year), but it's
actually quite entertaining.  It's based on true events, but has lots of
broad characters and humorous dialogue and reminded me of a Frank
Capra type movie where disagreeable people or notions clash, but
ultimately work together.

It has a varied cast like Drew Barrymore, Ted Danson, John Krasinski,
Kristen Bell and Dermot Mulroney, along with some other apprealing
ethnic Alaskan types.

"Mr. Scoutmaster".  Another Cliffton Webb film.
i was expecting this to be more of a comedy. the first half was kind of dry with a few small laughs and both of us were squiming a bit waiting for it to het over. Half way through is improved and was more of a drama with a bit of suspense and sweetnes.

"African Queen"
My partner had never seen this. it looked great in HD. I enjoyed it as always and Nick said he loked it. I can tell when he really, loves somethong and thos was not it. It was "fine" for him.

Saw SAFE HOUSE last night with Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds
and Vera Farmiga.

I didn't mind the story, but the execution ruined the film for me.  I
disliked the photography, it was directed in Michael Bay fashion (by that
I mean his pension (pention?) for cutting off people's necks and foreheads;
close-ups beyond close-ups, in other words), it was edited in a blender
I think, the score was annoying, the sound effects took precedence
over the dialogue.  Awful, but routine film-making right now.
