TDKR - Loved it. It could perhaps have been edited a bit more. I did find it a bit predictable, but still enjoyed it a lot.

Sorry.....I meant to post this weeks ago...but forgot. Yeah....it was that memorable !!

I watch " War Horse"....and was totally and completely disappointed with it. I felt like it was an adult version of Black Beauty. Also at some stages I was waiting for a very young Elizabeth Tayor to come into veiw.(National Velvet !)" Neigh "....I didn't like it !!  Wink

Watched "Beasts of the Southern Wild" last night and I can understand the buzz now.  This is quite a different movie which does not come a long often.  It provides a glimpse into "the bathtub" that many will never, ever dream of seeing.   The film seems to be a mix of fantastical coupled with real life adult themes that pack punches especially when told from a young child's perspective.

I enjoyed the film but do not expect to walk out smiling. It is very sobering and is certainly not for everyone - not even close.

Warching Game Plan with Dwayne Johnson. It's a sticky sweet film with a too cute little girl, but I like it. The Rock is, as always, gorgeous and doesn't mind poking fun at himself, so what's not to like!

Always a good thing in a gorgeous guy.

I suppose this should go into "The Most Anticipated Film " thread but I'm not anticipating seeing it !!!

I can't believe they are doing a remake of " Laurence of Arabia"...with Robert Pattinson in the lead roll. Not because it's Mr Pattinson...but because when they say "Lawrence of Arabia".....you/I automatically conjour up a picture of Peter O'Toole ....and none other,

Although Pattinson is set to play TE Lawrence it's not in a remake of Lawrence of Arabia.  It's a biopic of Middle East adventurer Gertrude Bell entitled Queen of the Desert to be directed by Werner Herzog.

[...]
Yet Pattinson's Lawrence looks set to play second-fiddle in Herzog's production, which instead focuses on the life and times of Bell. Naomi Watts has already signed up to play Bell, often referred to as "the female Lawrence of Arabia".
Bell – an English writer, political administrator, spy and archaeologist – was an influential figure in British imperial policy-making during and after the first world war, because of her extensive knowledge of the Middle East and ability to influence Arab leaders. A traveller and photographer in the region, whose writings gave many British readers their first insight into life in the area prior to 1914, Bell played a pivotal role in the creation of Iraq during the early 20s.

This past weekend I got invited to dinner and a movie by a friend. I got to pick the movie. There is really nothing playing right now that I really wanted to see, so I said, "Let's go watch a bunch of over-the-hill action stars blow things up. That should be good for a few laughs." And it was. We saw The Expendables 2.  Grin

Spoiler Alert (if this is really necessary here for this film):

Actually, it was kind of nice to see the Governator make fun of himself by saying "I'll be back" once or twice. And I found it amusing how Chuck Norris kept popping up--and he was referred to as a "lone wolf," which referenced his own flick Lone Wolf McQuade (1985), and his character was named Booker, the name of his character in his own 1978 Good Guys Wear Black. My impression is that the movie is actually full of references to the stars' old movies, most of which most of the audience is probably way too young to get. I swear I even remember a short quotation in the score from the theme to The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Oh, and for a short time, the cast even included Liam Hemsworth, who is really easy on the eyes.

I enjoyed the first Expendables... love it when stars make fun of themsleves, especially when it doesn't detrack from the story. Hope E-2 makes it to regular tv real soon!

We watched a few at the cottage!

Old ones............Romeo is Bleeding, Imaginary Heroes and City by the Sea..   the last two I actually enjoyed.  Romeo is Bleeding was bizzare, but it kept me guessing and I did get teary at the end.  Cheesy

No! No! This cannot be true...I  can't believe it.  Heavens - pls. let this be false.  Noone -  noone - could have portrayed LOA with the greatness and beauty of Peter O'Toole.  It is his iconic role in that iconic film.  It is his role forever, noone else's, and everyone knows it.

I feel kind of ill right now...

Oh, how handsome - Rhett and Clark.  And so beautiful - Vivien as Scarlett.  What perfection.

Damn!  Anyone else portraying LOA but the great Peter O'Toole is an insult to the entire industry.  Peter was born; destined to portray him.  No wonder we think of him in this immortal role & immortal film at once.  Anyone else would have ruined it.

Anyway, just because Lawrence knew Bell - who cares?  She is definitely not a female Lawrence, nor ever will be.  She worked with the English & French - after stabbing Arab allies in the back after WW1 - in carving up countries and making artificial borders where there were none before.  Pure imperialism was her job - nothing else.

TEL tried so  very hard to to give Damascus to the Arab allies once they took it, and also tried so very hard at the Paris Peace Conference in speaking for them.   Of course, he was not listened to.  The British & the French in their perfidy had the stab in the back plan long before.
