Hi, Took the teenagers to see "The Avengers" last night at the IMAX in 3D.   The film is a blast ride from the opening until the ending and I do mean stay thru the VERY END.  This is one that you need to just enjoy as it's full of blow'm ups and well placed humor and the usual battles between too much testosterone in one room.   I enjoyed the film but it's not going to be everyone's cup-of-tea.   Dare say it's the first of the summer blockbusters?   It is getting very high marks on RT.   Joss Whedon has done another hit for us and with the all star cast onboard, sit back and enjoy the ride!

I don't know, the reviews I've read have not been kind:

Exotic Marigold: Senior Brits go to India, adorableness ensues
[...]
Unfortunately, the script, based on Deborah Moggach’s 2004 novel These Foolish Things, might better be described as pure British stodge: high-starch English comfort food of more sentimental than nutritional value. .
[...]
So much adorableness wears out its welcome fairly quickly, and at more than two hours, Marigold Hotel is not a short movie. No doubt the virtuoso cast isn’t bad company to kill time – from Smith’s patented indignant eye-roll to Nighy’s stretched-out comic reaction takes – but the pacing runs counter to the movie’s message, that time is too precious to waste. With its stereotypical characters and creaky plot turns, this passage to India feels even longer than its running time.

Just got back. Loved it. It was good character development and personal conflicts. The fighting between Iron Man and Captain America was quite true to the comics. They always fought on how to lead to group. The semi-love interest between Hawkeyes and the Black Widow, which my have to subtle to pick up on, again maybe not.  Again, they kept that story close to the comics. The Hulk smash was the best. A fun ride enjoy it to the end. Avengers 2 will not be here soon enough. Maybe with NEW heroes, like Ant-man(Goliath) and the Wasp, who were members of the first comic book.

Same here. Word of mouth. I very seldom go by what the reviewers say. A lot of movies that have been loved by the reviewers I hated and vice versa.

As I said, it will not appeal to everyone, but if you liked the trailer and it held your interest, you will like it.

I think I will give it a try. Awesome actors, that's for sure.

I remember one (positive) review saying, without being patronising, that there's a real lack of films that appeal to "more mature" audiences!

Well, indeed I was thinking that it is rare to see mature actors as protagonists.
And it feels so refreshing.

(Maybe because we ourselves are mature ..... Angry)

American Reunion (2012)

Jim, Michelle, Stifler, and their friends reunite in East Great Falls, Michigan for their high school reunion.

Loved it, big fan of the first two american pie films, to my friends and I they are classics, we were young teenagers at the time and loved every second of the films, I didnt see 'the wedding' or any of the spin off, but when we all found out that all the orginal cast were returning, we knew we had to see it, glad it we did as we were NOT disappointed, laughed from start to finish, its still full of the childish humour that me and my mates love, yes some of it is very silly.but its very funny, we were the oldest people in the cinema and realised that half of the kids there werent even born when the orginal came out in the cinema, that made us feel old! we have grew up with these characters and I loved every minute of there new adverture, a must see!

Saw The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel on the Friday that it opened. The theatre was quite full. Mostly older folks. I thought the film was very pleasant. Perhaps a bit longer than it needed to be, but with that wonderful cast (Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, etc.) it seems churlish to complain about running time and the otherwise lightweight drama/comedy of the film.

I saw it Friday as well, Mark, and had the same experiences you did. I thoroughly enjoyed it as well. I heard a couple older men say the same thing about the running time. I thought is was OK, timewise.

I saw "The Avengers" with Michael today (not the 3-D version) and we both liked it a lot. Everything you said is right! My absolute favorite scene as well!  Just great!!

I am not normally an action/shoot-em-up type movie goer, but this was worth seeing. As Vincent said, it was a well balanced story, with lots of action and humor. I have to admit my Marvel comic's background is lacking, but there was enough explanation in the movie to get everyone straight. Of course it helped that there were a lot of really good looking heroes!!!

I finally saw Iron Man on TV last night. I liked the Tony Stark character and I liked Robert Downey, Jr., in the role, yet somehow I found the movie sort of ho-hum.  Whut?
