I saw 21 JUMP STREET last night.  I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but
if one's of a mind to see something like this it was pretty good.  Channing
Tatum and Jonah Hill make a good comedy team with good chemistry and
there's some real laughs in the mix.

My husband and son saw it this last weekend.  My son had so much fun watching my husband laugh is pants off!  Neither of them got the Johnny Depp part!  I would like to see it....even though it isn't my type of movie.

I'm not a Johnny Depp fan and an anti-fan of Tim Burton's, but their new film looks passably funny. Of course, the best lines are usually included in the previews, so maybe not.

On tv several times over the weekend, one of my all time favorite films, Overboard. From 1987, it is the 3rd time Goldie Hawn and her partner (since 1983,) Kurt Russell, did a movie together. It is sweet, witty and just plain feel good fun. Love, love, love it!

Isn't this supposed to be a big secret, or spoiler, if you will?

Except if you're a Dark Shadows fan; I think those people are going to hate
what they've done to it.

I looked at the review in EW and it does mention it.  Nothing about what he does in the movie.....could be just a reference to him for all I know.

I agree - not for everyone but it did make me laugh.   I took the kid and his buds to see it last weekend.  Some of the humor was coming a mile away.  Tatum and Hill have some real zingers but the film does sink into juvenile humor a couple of times.. but i expected it.    Not bad for the matinee showing.  Later, Vincent

A friend told me 21 Jump Street was surprisingly good. It was not. While not bad, I thought it was quite average--even for that genre.

I liked the documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi. It looks at Jiro Ono, an 85-year old sushi master, whose modest 10-seat Tokyo sushi bar earned 3 Michelin stars. The film also features his two sons (the elder, Yoshikazu, works under his father by tradition, while the younger son runs his own sushi restaurant), his restaurant assistants and the precision that goes into a meal at Sukiyabashi Jiro: sushi-only, served one at a time... a $300 meal that could last as little as 15 minutes, and a month-long waiting list.

Excerpts from yahoo story...

'Hunger Games' stuns with $155 mln opening
LOS ANGELES (Reuters)

The highly anticipated drama "The Hunger Games" opened with a staggering $155 million in estimated U.S. and Canadian weekend ticket sales, beating Hollywood's loftiest expectations and ranking as the third-highest domestic opening in history.

The debut for the film, which tells the story of an oppressive society's teen death match, ranked behind only last summer's "Harry Potter" finale and 2008 Batman movie "The Dark Knight," distributor Lions Gate Entertainment said on Sunday.

...

"Hunger Games" set records for highest opening of a film that was not a sequel and biggest debut outside of the summer blockbuster season, Lions Gate said.

When Titanic opened I saw it several times and I kept the ticket stubs in
a Titanic book.  I looked at them recently--and I never paid more than $5
to see it.  If I went to see Hunger Games here now I'd have to pay at
least $10.  I'd prefer to see statistics about movie openings with how
many actual people that relates to.

That's a good idea (the number of people rather than the amount of money.) But does anyone keep those statistics?

My Week With Marilyn (2011) on DVD, which I bought on the first day it was released (last monday) amazing performance by Michelle Williams, she is Marilyn, Eddie Redmayne is gorgeous and perfect as the love struck Colin Clarke. I found it much more emotional watching it this time round, maybe its cos I was in the privacy of my bedroom instead of the cinema but I cried my heart out, yes she was beautiful and a sex symbol but she had such a hard, sad life, she was a scared little girl, that wanted people to love her but was terrifyed everyone she loved was going to leave her (and most of them did) Michelle got that spot on, her performance was pitch perfect. backed by a strong english supporting cast, truly an amazing film

Watched 3 movies over the w/e.  The first was "Senna". The life story of Ayrton Senna. Didn't think I would be interested in it but it surprised me. I liked it.

The second was an oldie...."Witness For The Prosecution " (1958)......starring Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich and Charles Lawton. Classic. Brilliant.

The third .....was a teenage type of film ! It was "Blue Wave"....(2011).... It's about teenagers on a surfing holiday and going on to Mexico. Not much of a story but the scenery was beautiful. I know it's based in California.....but with all the  tall sun tanned ,sun bleached blond haired guys riding the turquoise waters...... it reminded me of another who used to have sunbleached hair and rode the turquoise waters on a beach ....down under in Perth  Sad
