How do you hide when you are running from yourself

That's the one movie from this season which I absolutely wanted to watch but I haven't seen yet.

Maybe next week.

Glad you enjoyed Tinker... Did the various relationships surprise you?

Drive is a tough nut to crack - overlooked.  It is violent, especially 1 or 2 scenes that really sneak up on you.   Enjoy  Vincent.

I was almost 60 when I saw GWTW the first time... just a few years ago. Somehow I don't think my life has been adversely affected by missing it for 59+ years. My main impression was it was... l o n g! Very l o n g.  I'e no desire to see it again.

It's been years since I watched GWTW at all. Once I owned my own copy on tape, I used to just watch the first half. I've always thought the movie goes downhill after Scarlett gets back to Tara.  Cheesy

Love love love that movie.

It had been awhile since I had seen it.
It is a well acted and put together movie, and frightening.

I stumbled on that by accident Saturday afternoon and ended up watching it instead of doing housework.  Roll Eyes

I love Irene Dunne.  Cheesy

I love those old pictures where everybody was rich and wore fabulous clothes and got into "scrapes."  Grin

She is one of my favorites as well, Jeff.
I have been having a good time watching some of these old movies.

That's funny. My partner and I watched the first half a few months ago and it was fine. We never felt the desire to watch the second half though and still have not.

Wouldn't you know!  One of the most popular and loved films (and books)
of all time and this thread has a bunch of GWTW party poopers!  On
Valentine's Day yet!

Well, I've always been "who cares" about Casablanca, so there!    Smiley

Speaking of Irene Dunne, a friend of mine over the last year has
become acquainted with her grandson.

I've become appreciative of Irene Dunne moreso when I've seen her
films on the big screen.  I once read an article about why she isn't seen
as one of the greats of old Hollywood and they surmised it was because
that so many of her films were remade with the current stars du jour
that she started being thought of in the background.

One to watch: Mauro Conte

Looks more like one to watch out for!

No Lyle, it was not worth seeing. Very poorly done and no big names, but it was not very long and I was not sleepy yet.
I guess you could say it was one of those movies that you keep watching in hopes it will get better. It didn't.

Thanks for the info, Linda!

1. Yes, I was surprised.

And I didn't know what to make of the scene where the blond (very handsome!) assistant gets rid of another man (lover? brother? family member?), sents him away from his home and then sits in the dark and cries.

Regarding the end, do you think that Haydon and the Istanbul guy (who eventually shoots him) also had a kind of love affair, or only friendship/attraction?

2. I'll give it a try.

Thanks, Ing

Actually, Casablanca doesn't do a whole lot for me, either. It's a good movie, and I love Claude Rains, but I've never really understood what all the fuss is about. A married woman does the right thing and stays with her husband. Big deal. ...

I haven't seen that many of her movies, actually, and in most of what I have seen, she's played a motherly type: I Remember Mama, Life With Father, and Anna and the King of Siam. I really like her in Life With Father, her only color picture. And I really like William Powell in that one, too.  Smiley (Come to think of it, I've never not liked William Powell.  Cheesy )

Garden State (2004)
A quietly troubled young man returns home for his mother's funeral after being estranged from his family for a decade.

such a good film, can't believe it took me so long to see it, I love Zach Braff and Natalie Portman in this
they are pitch perfect in every scene, its a depressing but beautiful story, I would put it in my top 50 films of all time, and I am fussy with films so thats a big deal, I would watch it again, its amazing that Zach Wrote the script to, he is amazingly talented and ive heard him interviewed a few times and he seems like such a nice guy

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

We saw that movie at the time of its release and really, really liked it.

I have forgotten most of the plot, but some key scenes still linger in my head.

Definitely a special, very unusual film - somewhat disturbing and very intense.

Oh Jeff, how can you not swoon when they part in the rain in Paris--- and meet again at Rick's and their eyes meet when they hear 'Time Goes By' and...and when Paul Henried leads the band in 'La Marseillaise' and the Nazis try to outsing them ... and Rick and Claude walk off in the dark together to kick Nazi ass.... oh.. oh Cry

But I fell in love with Leslie Howard as Ashley.... Grin
