That's from "Kismet", a musical in the '50's set in Baghdad back in the days of the Arabian caliphs.  (A non-musical version of it was filmed in the mid-'40's with Ronald Colman & Marlene Dietrich.  To me anything to hear his voice is worth seeing, but it is not his best).

Anyway, it is set in Baghdad in what was theMesopotamia, today's Iraq (thanks to the British and French who after WW1 carved up the Arab Middle East into countries - which never even existed for -themselves.  Some 'allies', huh?  Nothing but lying imperialists).

I'm sure the Persians (non-Arabs and today's Iran) were eager to claim it, but the story is set in an Arab land; this is not saying the Persians never had their own type of lovely jewelry.  So much beautiful jewelry was made/sold in the ages-old suqs of Syria too.

"Baubles, bangles,
Hear how they jing, jing-a-ling-a,
Baubles, bangles,
Bright, shiny beads.
Sparkles, spangles,
My heart will sing, sing-a-ling-a,
Wearing baubles, bangles and beads.
I'll glitter and gleam so,
Make somebody dream so,
That someday he may buy me,
A ring, ring-aling-a,
I've heard that's where it leads,
Wearing baubles and bangles and beads."

In the news, but it's old news...not sure why they put it in today.  Slow news day?

Actress Minka Kelly can be added to Hollywood flirt Jake Gyllenhaal’s list of former flames – the pair dated in secret earlier this year, but the romance fizzled out.

The actor first asked Kelly out last autumn, but she turned him down and began dating Wilmer Valderrama instead.

But when that relationship died in April, Kelly agreed to take a chance on Gyllenhaal.

A mutual friend tells Us Weekly magazine, “Minka wasn’t into Jake when he first pursued her. (But she) decided to give Jake another chance.”

However, the match wasn’t meant to be and the would-be couple quietly parted ways. The insider adds, “It was never serious, and it’s over now.”

Serial dater Gyllenhaal has been linked to singers Taylor Swift and Jenny Lewis, as well as screen beauties Olivia Wilde, Kirsten Dunst, Reese Witherspoon and Rachel Bilson.

She was in a very good series, Friday Night Lights, and did a few episodes of not-so-good Parenthood...

I doubt it. We'd all have to be forced to do it against our will, I reckon. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Any news of our man's first effort from behind the camera or is it just something hoped for some time in the future?

I think that the way they filmed EOW he was manning a camera.  So maybe in the future he'll direct.   Right now I think he's taking notes for the future

I believe Kelly was an off again/on again GF of Derek Jeter of the Yankees.

Not sure if this is the right thread to comment about The Day After Tomorrow, but here goes.    Here are three reasons why it's a silly movie.

1.  When the paleoclimatologist is showing a moving graphic of the world's ocean currents and how they move equatorial heat around, the current is going in the opposite direction in the Atlantic:  counterclockwise, going up Europe's west coast then around and down the US's east coast.

2.  When a scene begins in NOAA's office, the name "National Oceanographic Atmospheric Administration," omitting the "and" in the middle, flashes on the screen.

3.  Latish in the movie, a scientist is reviewing satellite data and says, "The temperature is dropping 10 degrees a second."  Yeah, and it'll be below absolute zero inside a minute.

I rememebered #3 from when I saw the movie in the theaters.  The first two I noticed when I DVR'd the movie in the last couple of days.

The movie doesn't consider how Mexico is going to feed the millions of US citizens who have dropped in.

Also Jake is doing so well on his own, why does he need his Dad to go and get him, and why is it easier to get back for two of them?

I always enjoy it though.

Apparently Jake Gyllenhaal and Jay-Z are new BFFs!!

The two celeb fellows were recently spotted having a boys night out, at the Standard in NYC. The boys were having fun, hangn, drinkn, and watching the Knicks game in a roped off section of the club. Not the most normal clubbing experience, but what happens next is even more strange!

After a couple hours, Jay-Z's mother-in-law, Tina Knowles showed up!

Tina brought Beyonce's sister, Solange, along to spy party with the guys too!

Jay and Jake didn't seem to mind at all! An eye-witness to the fun tells us:

"They were very cheerful, laughing and enjoying the game. Several partygoers tried to steal pics."

Hmmmm…. do you think there's a chance the rapper was trying to set the actor up with Beyonce's sis??
