Haven't heard anything from them since the news that flooding is getting worse in Bangkok.

Tony last posted here at 12:30am (east coast time) this morning, and has been on as recently as 9:00am (eastern time) this morning as well.

On 10/18 he posted that they were Ok at that time, whether or not that's changed since, I can't say.

The evening news today (All Things Considered) had a report that the plan to divert the water around the city is not working, so that the downtown area and the rest of the city will experience quite a bit of flooding.

Thanks, Chuck and Fritz !!!!  It's hard to keep up with all the threads, so, I didn't know.  Sometimes, you can hunt down someone's profile for their latest, but he varies where he posts.  Anyway, it is a mess over there, and I was wondering.  I appreciate your news, and hope the news stays good.....

Chuck, you're waffling on the horror flick issue.  And your avatar suggests, hmmmm.....you really like the Halloween season.  I mean, you didn't do a bunny rabbit for Easter, or at least not that I can recall.  Or maybe....one avatar.....ate the other  Cheesy ?

Have heard the flooding in Thailand has gotten much worse, BTW, and have wondered when Tony, there, will check in.  I hope he's ok.

Tony, I've been emailing Tony -- said they were okay as of a few days ago. Just fired off another email to check.

Gosh, these earthquakes just keep on happening.  It's like, every three days.

I guess am paying more attention since the one in Virginia.  I never thought I'd live to see the day when a whole building, the one I was in,would go sliding back and forth.

And now, today, over in Virginia Beach, a Mistpouffer.  Also known as Seneca guns.  These are unexplained booms near coasts, and Wikipedia has them as everything from possible off-coast earthquakes to parts of the continental crust falling off into the deep. Am on the 3rd floor of my apt. bldg. so, I guess am safe from possible back-waves from Mistpouffers.  But if I see any stray dolphins floating past, am off to the roof  Tongue.

Have heard the flooding in Thailand has gotten much worse, BTW, and have wondered when Tony, there, will check in.  I hope he's ok.

The fact that people are in the cafe again didn't show up on my forum page until this morning.

Yes, we are still OK in Bangkok, thank you.  Our district is still dry and we have been able to get everywhere we have needed or wanted to go.

I keep wondering though because information from "experts" and advisors as reported in the media is still contradictory, let alone announcements by both the Bangkok and national governments.

Municipal and national governments and big businesses in the industrial estates (including the likes of Honda and Toyota) don't seem to have done any forward planning whatsoever, even though catastrophic floods began in the north way back in July and the massive volumes of water would inevitably have to flow through province after province and eventually down the Chao Phraya River through Bangkok into the Gulf of Thailand. They all seem to react to crises on a day-to-day basis.

The one exception has been Pak Kred municipality in Nonthaburi Province, much of which is in fact an outer northern suburb of Bangkok. It is the one agency that seems to have learnt from experience. 30% of the municipality was flooded in the great flood of 1995, but only 3% has been flooded this year. Other parts of the province have been flooded for two months. Pak Kred put an action plan into effect in June, strengthening and doubling dykes along canals that were dredged and cleaned and guarding them round the clock from destruction by panicky people and vandals, putting pumps and earth moving machinery in place, educating the public and enlisting monks to help them get people's understanding and cooperation.

Some people are staring to talk about class action suits against the other local government and the national government for mismanagement to get compensation for ruined houses and loss of livelihoods.

Fingers still crossed.

A mistpouffer is a new word and a new phenomenon for me!  Don't think I've ever met one.
