Double espresso and a little hot milk for me, please.  A brownie would be nice too.

A la Alice B. Toklas, or plain?

Huh? (Pardon my American Cheesy)

thats what I was thinking Sara!

Alice B. Toklas (April 30, 1877 – March 7, 1967) was an American-born member of the Parisian avant-garde of the early 20th century.

For a short time she also studied music at the University of Washington. She met Gertrude Stein in Paris on September 8, 1907, the day she arrived. Together they hosted a salon that attracted expatriate American writers, such as Ernest Hemingway, Paul Bowles, Thornton Wilder and Sherwood Anderson, and avant-garde painters, including Picasso, Matisse, and Braque.

Acting as Stein's confidante, lover, cook, secretary, muse, editor, critic, and general organizer, Toklas remained a background figure, chiefly living in the shadow of Stein, until Stein published her memoirs in 1933 under the teasing title The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas. It became Stein's bestselling book. The two were a couple until Gertrude Stein's death in 1946.

After the death of Gertrude Stein, Toklas published her own literary memoir, a 1954 book that mixed reminiscences and recipes under the title The Alice B. Toklas Cookbook. The most famous recipe therein was called "Haschich Fudge," a mixture of fruit, nuts, spices, and "canibus sativa," or marijuana. Her name was later lent to the range of cannabis concoctions called Alice B. Toklas brownies.  Some believe that the slang term toke, meaning to inhale marijuana, is derived from her last name.

She added a special ingredient to give it a little zing.

mod: oh, I see that Chuck has already treated the subject!

Haven't partaken of one since the 70's. Interesting experience, but that's about it.

Grin

I hope everyone is good in the Café today!  Tony, it was good to see you here, and "reactivate" the thread!  I appreicate it.

Woke up this morning to news that there was a devastating earthquake in Turkey, they estimate that a possible 1,000 people are dead.

Hey, Chuck !  I'm around....just posting when I trust the computer to work smoothly.

We went from earthquakes to pot brownies, here, and now back to earthquakes.....stream of consciousness at its usual  Cheesy....

Am sorry to hear of the deaths in Turkey, but am also uneasy about the frequency of quakes.  The experts say there is no up-tick.  Yeah, right.....and no global warming, either.

I'd better leave off.  Watched the original Titanic movie last night, "A Night to Remember", and am quacked out over warnings ignored. Will stabilize later, hopefully.

See you later, Tony.
Don't mean to quack you out even more, but it does seem so with the frequency of large earthquakes.
I suppose (though I don't know, just supposition on my part) that the scientists look back from the prehistory at earthquakes and of course there is not an influx. Same with the warming of the earth. They go back the creation of the earth and compare it against that.

My thought is though that there was not all the people, pollution, and sheer weight of buildings and people back then. Seems like the measuring stick should be updated on both issues.

Hey, Chuck !  I'm around....just posting when I trust the computer to work smoothly.

Aaaahhh...technology!  Ain't it grand?  Grin  I hate when I have computer issues, especially at work....it seems to pile up so quickly, and that throws me off schedule.  Ugh!

We went from earthquakes to pot brownies, here, and now back to earthquakes.....stream of consciousness at its usual  Cheesy....

Yes, that always kills me!  Go from one topic to the other, and back again!

Am sorry to hear of the deaths in Turkey, but am also uneasy about the frequency of quakes.  The experts say there is no up-tick.  Yeah, right.....and no global warming, either.

Actually, I believe I've heard that they no longer want to use "global warming", as there can be swings to colder temps as well, so "they" are now saying "climate change".

I'd better leave off.  Watched the original Titanic movie last night, "A Night to Remember", and am quacked out over warnings ignored. Will stabilize later, hopefully.

I hope so too.  I used to hear about earthquakes and think they happend to "other people".....then I became a member here, and now I worry about friends I met online who live in quake zones.  I was in a panic when Christchurch, NZ had their earthquake, I have a great friend who lived there, but still has family who live there.  Thankfully, I was one of the first people he called, so that I could spread the word to our mutual friends that he was ok.

My thought is though that there was not all the people, pollution, and sheer weight of buildings and people back then. Seems like the measuring stick should be updated on both issues.

I wonder about that too, Auntie.  There are so many differences from now and then.....with so many different aspects to the world, how can they accurately predict anything?
