Womanspace, Rockford, IL
Supper and Film

Supper & Film Discussion Group
Open to all, these gatherings start with supper, followed by the film and then a discussion of its themes, characters and artistry.

Brokeback Mountain – This sweeping epic explores the life of two young men, ranch hand and rodeo cowboy, who meet in the summer of 1963 and forge a life long connection. Complications and heartbreak as the years go by test their enduring power of love. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal deliver emotionally charged performances in this “classic of our time”.

Brokeback Mountain at the Atlas

Next Thursday, Sept. 1, brings the final film, Ang Lee's 2005 adaptation of Annie Proulx's short story Brokeback Mountain. While unleashing a torrent of "I wish I could quit you" gay-cowboy jokes on a tittering nation,
all the jokes in the world were unable to lessen the impact of the final images of lost love and loneliness. And yet as much as Brokeback Mountain was about the love of two men,
it was about the destruction that the closet wreaks on everyone it touches -- gay and straight.

Atlas Performing Arts Center, 1333 H St. NE, Washington D.C.

Tickets are free, except for a $2 booking fee. Call 202-399-7993 or visit atlasarts.org for a full schedule.

A chronicle of shifting attitudes towards sexuality in a period when the Old West became the New, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN is one of the great screen love stories.

Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh In Person

MY WEEK WITH MARILYN

At the height of her popularity, Marilyn Monroe went to England to make THE PRINCE AND THE SHOWGIRL with Sir Laurence Olivier. An eager assistant became the only person who could comfort the insecure star. Michelle Williams is Marilyn to Kenneth Branagh's Olivier in this tale of their on-set struggles and the young man who kept Monroe company.

Discussion following with Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh.

Message from Gregory Hinton:

Dear Friends:

I have been selected to produce and direct Dustin Lance Black's marriage equality play "8" in Colorado and Montana.

Out West is a partner in the national release of "8" to seventeen communities and counting all over the United States.

8theplay.com

Associated Press

Out West is partnering with the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Ft. Collins to present "8" on Feb 17th and the Bozeman Library Foundation in Bozeman on September 29th. I am co-directing with Leigh Selting, Director of the Festival and Executive Director of the University of Wyoming Theatre & Dance Dept.

I will also be presenting a workshop at the festival bsaed on my Windy City Times article "Staging Oral LGBT History: Laramie, Beyond Brokeback & "8"" with an impromptu reading of Beyond Brokeback.

Beyond Brokeback deserves to be elevated to the status of Laramie and "8" and the workshop will hopefully propel that fact.

We have a very talented young director, Todd Espeland, pulling Beyond Brokeback together for Las Vegas on February 11th.

On February 27th, for our first event at the Autry we are presenting Out West with Al Simpson.

Gonna be a busy month!
