Lets just call her a "free spirit" Andy  Cheesy

But that's not enough, Sue. She's so much more than that.

Millionairess also come to mind  !!   Shocked I believe she owns a good chunk of the properties in one of the up market areas of London. Chelsea or Knightsbridge or somewhere like that. But she is a one off. Wish there was more like her. No side to her at all.

Isn't she just fabulous, Sue?

This other clip is worth it for the short extract she reads from Great Expectations alone. As well as being a prize slut, she's a brilliant actress.  Grin

Another great video, Andy.
She so brings Dickens alive, but I am a fan already, of both Dickens and Miriam!

OMG! I just discovered singer/songwriter Alexi Murdoch who is basically the new Nick Drake.  Apparently he established himself with this style and he hadn't even heard of Nick Drake.

Strange one for you !
Just watched this film....but this blew me away. Rowans recital of this very beautiful piece was perfect.Just wish they hadn't tagged on the tacky singing at the end.

Suely, in an interview, Matt says (about the Syrian women):

"It was a sticky issue that I agonized over for months as I watched the news in Syria get worse and worse.  I filmed those clips back in July of 2010, about 6 months before the Arab Spring.  At the time, the dancers were fine with appearing in the video.  When things turned bad, I was unsure whether contacting them would put them in jeopardy, and I couldn't find any other way to reach out to them.

In the end, I decided to use the footage but keep them thoroughly blurred for their safety.

I made the decision not to cut the footage out, because it spoke so directly to what the video is about for me.

To be clear, it's not a matter of religious conservatism. As I understand it, Syria is relatively liberal about things like men and women dancing together. It's more of a political issue. Their government is just killing people willly nilly at this point."

Thanks Donna. I did think it was for political reasons that they were blurred out and not for religious reasons. Brilliant vid.

Eva Cassidy......."Fields of Gold"  Cry

Hope you're feeling happier now!!!

Some info on Eva Cassidy for you.

Eva Marie Cassidy (February 2, 1963 – November 2, 1996) was an American vocalist, known for her interpretations of jazz, blues, folk, gospel, country and pop classics. In 1992 she released her first album, The Other Side, a set of duets with go-go musician Chuck Brown, followed by a live solo album, Live at Blues Alley in 1996. Cassidy was virtually unknown outside her native Washington, DC.

In 1993, Cassidy had a malignant mole removed from her back. Three years later, during a promotional event for the Live at Blues Alley album in July 1996, Cassidy noticed an ache in her hips, which she attributed to stiffness from painting murals while perched atop a stepladder.  The pain persisted and a few weeks later, X-rays revealed that the melanoma had spread to her lungs and bones. The doctors gave her three to five months to live. Cassidy opted for aggressive treatment, but her health deteriorated rapidly.  In her final public performance in September 1996, at the Bayou, she closed the set with "What a Wonderful World" in front of an audience of friends, fans and family.  She was subsequently admitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Cassidy died at her family home in Bowie, November 2, 1996, at the age of 33. She was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Washington Area Music Association.  According to her wishes, Cassidy’s body was cremated. Her ashes were scattered on the shores of St. Mary's River Watershed Park, a nature reserve near California, Maryland.

At the 2002 Winter Olympics gala, and later on tour, figure skater (and Olympic Silver medalist) Michelle Kwan brought Cassidy's music to a new audience when she skated to a recording of "Fields of Gold". Kwan's part in exposing the music of Cassidy to the international and American public led Cassidy's label to present her a gold record from the certification of Songbird.  Subsequently, other figure skaters such as Kristi Yamaguchi, Sarah Hughes and Kimmie Meissner have used Cassidy's music in their routines.
