Its funny what upsets us, music wise, I chose the hymn "We plough the fields and scatter" for my beloved fathers funeral, it is not at all  melancholy and was appropriate because he worked on the land all his life, and died in October, (harvest festival time), but I can't hear it now without tearing up.

This is another song that brings a lump to my throat. This is Chris Martin .....the very image of my eldest son who has the same name. My other children have all been successful in what ever they have ventured to do....but he always seems to get the tough luck. I/we have prayed for things to get better for him .... and in recent years they have. So this is for Chris......my Chris.

Coldplay........." Fix you"

Youtube told me that due to copyright restrictions I can't watch this in the US.  But here's another, with no ads to spoil its impact.  Yes, a moving song.  (And I'm glad that its message seems to be coming true.)

Tuning into Jimmy Fallon last night to catch the Prez, I heard the band, Beirut. Does anyone know them? They are terrific. Melodious and so different from most modern musical groups. Really, really exceptional.

Yes.  And plenty of examples on Youtube, which you've probably already discovered.

Is it just a peculiarity of this forum, or is there some sort of renaissance of songs, in a more traditiional sense?  (I hope it's not another symptom of
conservatism per se; there's way too much of that as it is!)

I have no idea what the preferences are on the forum. I like music that makes sense and worry about what today's youth is going to be listening to 40-50 years. 50 Cent?

And I'm on dial-up so I can't youtube. Although I see some from time to time on Ellen and some of the entertainment and news shows.

Does your set-up let you listen to audio, without tv?  Because - for what it's worth - if you get curious about some particular band or artist, you can often goddle for them and get just the music on their web sites or other places.  Though with all the dogs you may not have time to do much roaming around the internet.

 Smiley
I don't know about the audio. Occasionally I run across a website with music and it plays just fine, so I guess I could. I'll have to try that! Thanks.

Great. He has a sound of Jeff Buckley about him....and that ain't a bad thing. Love the way he pronounces "Debussy" Grin Kiss

I'm glad you like Patrick Watson! I think their new album is being released in the U.S. on May 15th along with an extensive tour there
