Cally and andy, I'm right there with you about "Weekend."  I had a hard time buying it as this incredible love story, since the two main characters seemed to spend a lot of their interactions buzzed or flat-out high--including moments where they seemed to be sharing very personal details, and during their (admittedly) hot sex scenes.  Thus, their connection didn't quite click for me.  Not a bad movie, but certainly not the greatest gay film/love story ever made (as some are claiming).

Dean, for me the drugs were a negative, but overall I did love the film and became very involved in, and moved by, both men and their relationship - their connection did click for me.  'Incredible love story'? Well, I think the dawning of love was there - who knows how it will develop?  I was touched by Russell's vulnerability, and also by realising that Glen too had his sensitive side.

I agree with this. It's a one night stand that becomes more, but they have only about two days, IMHO that's too short for a love story. Like you said, the dawning was there and we don't know how it would have developed.

What Cally and Sparkle said... Cheesy

There IS a great lovestory, though... Between me and Russell & Glen...  Embarrassed Cheesy

Possible spoilers? - not really I don't think.  I realised after I'd seen it that nothing that had been said here previously would have affected my viewing

LOL, yeah, I know, that's why I always felt so odd when I was warning about spoilers, but you never know how little anyone would like to know or rather not know before watching a movie. And I definitely didn't want to spoil it for anyone...

Oh, and I too can now confirm, it's: "make the grade" and "make your grade"!! Cheesy

The cinema this time was much fuller (oh well, maybe 40 people, but that's much better than the last times...). One reason was probably, that the movie apparently had been shown before as part of some gay&lesbian movie week and something didn't work with the subtitles back then. So people could come and see it again with their tickets from that screening...

Because there were more people there were also more laughs. Also I laughed some more than the last times... For instance at the scene with Russell and the Hobbit... The Hobbit was a very awkward dancer and got really intrusive. No wonder that Glen felt he had to rescue Russell... Cheesy

And I had to laugh when they were groping their carved carrots... Cheesy Cheesy

It was nice that I managed to notice much more sweetness from Glen this time. The way he sometimes looked at Russell? The way he was "crowding" Russell in the kitchen Saturday afternoon... So sweet...

Sigh... I'm in love... Cheesy

Oh, one question! On Saturday we see Russell twice in the bathroom looking into the mirror...
Once after their "fight", after Glen tells him that he can't have a boyfriend right now and that he doesn't want them to fall out over this and once some time before...
Is the first time actually a "preview" for us of that later scene or does he actually go to the bathroom before to think - maybe about how he is supposed to handle the fact that he is falling for Glen and there is not much hope for them, cause Glen will go away?

I went looking for photos and found this one:

Err, is it possible that this is from the first scene? And is it possible that I never noticed before - even though I was wondering about both scenes - that in the first scene he is (half)naked and in the second one he is clothed?? Or is this another scene maybe him getting ready after work?? Hm, this isn't his bathroom, is it?? OMG! I have seen the movie 4 times and I don't know this??  Embarrassed Cheesy
Argh! The wait for the DVD is sooooo long!!!  Undecided Cheesy

Oh well, I shut up now... Cheesy

Hey Uli!

Just a very quick peek in from work, but I just have to tell someone, that - again - I can't stop thinking about Russell and Glen... Cheesy I miss them so much!!!  Embarrassed Cheesy Watched Weekend again on Saturday and the "missing" feels like after the first time I watched it, maybe because now I am almost certain, that now I will have to wait for the DVD to see it again. While after the second and third time I knew already that there would be another chance this last Saturday...

Aw, I'm sorry I can't help either. At least it's only about six weeks until the DVD release.

I think this picture is a still that isn't in the film. To me it doesn't look like he's in his bathroom but doesn't look like he's at work either.
I remember only two times where Russell is looking at himself in a mirror. Once at work before he goes outside to meet Glen and the scene you mentioned during their last night together. The other times we see him in the bathroom he's sitting in the tub as far as I can remember. And the last time we see him in the tub he's pretty down because Glen is leaving town that day and has left Russell's apartment already.

ETA:  The light is so different in the pic but maybe it's at work after all. Although I think there were tiles on the wall and on the right side was a wall. Hmmm.  Whut?

WORD!  Smiley

This anim gif is driving me crazy but it's the only pic from that scene I could find so far. It's moving way too fast and it just won't stop.  Angry   Cheesy  A few more are here. I don't like that the person who made them is using Chris New's name as username and his picture as an avatar though he is someone else.  Roll Eyes

ETA: I extracted one frame and replaced the animated gif. Much better.  Grin  I also found out that it is possible to prevent GIF graphics from animating in the web browser window by hitting the ESC key.  Cool

Hope you manage to see it eventually, Ing - I'll be interested in your comments.  I pre-ordered the dvd when I thought I wasn't going to manage to see it in the cinema, and think i'll still go ahead with buying it.
