Now I need to go back to some posts....

I was just about to say much the same! I enjoyed it very much, but was both bored and upset by the extensive drug-taking, and there was a section in the middle where I thought I was really not very interested in what they had to say while they were stoned. And as Andy said, I don't think they needed the support, if that's what it was.
Hehe, actually before you went to see it I started to wonder if you all would be bothered by all the drugs. Cause I had seen the thread on IMDB Sparkle mentioned and because it really was remarkable amount and variety of drugs they took...

Even though my only drug is chocolate I wasn't bothered by all the stuff they were taking, I just accepted it as something that some people seem to do for whatever reason.
If they had come across as totally fucked up drug addicts it might have bothered me, cause then I would have worried about them...

I have no idea, though, if it is in any way realistic to do drugs like they did (and Russell seemed to be smoking on his little pipe quite regularly - I assume that was for some kind of drug, too? Pot? Well, I told you, I only do chocolate...

) and not be at least in danger of becoming addicted?
Well, in my little fantasy world they are both fine...

I didn't have the feeling that they needed the drugs to have fun, though... Maybe they just helped to speed things up a bit, because they were more unguarded and opening up maybe?
But then it all took off again, and I soon got back to being very emotionally involved. And that apart I loved it, and both actors (Russell's eyelashes!!).
Aren't his eyes so sweet? Twinkling?

So I was excited, interested, amused and moved by it, and will probably buy the dvd to watch it again, but I don't think it will have any lasting effect on me.
I don't know how lasting the effect will be on me - but I also don't know how lasting the effect of Brokeback would have been if I hadn't gotten involved in this forum and slash... I think this really plays a big part in Brokeback remaining so present for me. And since there will be nothing like it for Weekend it will be kind of an "unfair" comparison...

But when I look at the topic and the characters in the movie Weekend has much more to do with my life than Brokeback - on an obvious level at least...
But of course the story of Brokeback was "translated" so that it also resonated with me - obviously...

Otherwise I wouldn't be here...
