Do you remember the word the guys used for mocking artists? We weren't sure what it was, it sounded like "cunt" but it doesn't really fit according to my dictionary and compared to what it said in the subtitles. For example (Spoiler! -- highlight to read): Russell wants to know more about Glen's art project and Glen says in the kitchen after their meal something like "I know artists sound like XYZ when they talk about the meaning of their art" or something similar.  Russell says at the door after being told that Glen will go to Portland the next day "an art course, that's great [...] Now you'll become a real XYZ".

I think it was 'cunt'.  I suppose here it's just a general derogatory word to mean 'pretentious and arty' - just guessing though.

BTW, I have great difficulty in remembering that all this discussion is by two people whose first language is not English - you amaze me!

Thank you.   Smiley   And thanks for helping with the dialogue. Case solved. Grin  Same applies to "make the grade" (that's in the trailer btw around 00:10).

What I am hoping a bit is, that they are not absolutely accurate about the extras yet. Maybe there will be more? That's why I hope they will have that DVD at my cinema as soon as it comes out, so that I can take a look...
Yep, I also think the details on the webpage might change until the DVD release. And I will also try to take a look at the DVD before buying anything. Some cinemas here carry these goodmovies DVDs. Maybe I'll email the company, can't hurt to let them know what we want.  Cheesy

Cheesy That would be Uli ...  Grin *hides under desk*

Re the drugs: There's a thread on imdb "So much booze and drugs". You aren't the only ones who didn't like the drug-taking. I didn't like it either, but at the same time I was able to kind of ignore it, it didn't upset me.
One person on imdb said "Besides it must be usual in that social context, director Andrew Haigh said that 'excessive use of drugs and booze' was to justify the extreme exposure of their life experiences and thoughts in conversation."  (source)
Made sense to me.

I'm glad you don't regret watching it.  Smiley

We can all see you under the desk sparkle. Grin Though I didn't care for the drug bit I thought it realistic and in keeping with the movie, enabling the two characters to step outside of their usual selves perhaps. I'm not sure at what point Glen lost his defenses. As he left the apartment building maybe?

Cally and andy, I'm right there with you about "Weekend."  I had a hard time buying it as this incredible love story, since the two main characters seemed to spend a lot of their interactions buzzed or flat-out high--including moments where they seemed to be sharing very personal details, and during their (admittedly) hot sex scenes.  Thus, their connection didn't quite click for me.  Not a bad movie, but certainly not the greatest gay film/love story ever made (as some are claiming).

Possible spoilers? - not really I don't think.  I realised after I'd seen it that nothing that had been said here previously would have affected my viewing

Dean, for me the drugs were a negative, but overall I did love the film and became very involved in, and moved by, both men and their relationship - their connection did click for me.  'Incredible love story'? Well, I think the dawning of love was there - who knows how it will develop?  I was touched by Russell's vulnerability, and also by realising that Glen too had his sensitive side.

Oh I agree they had a connection--just not sure how "un-enhanced" it was, if you get my drift.  I still think "Before Sunrise" is the gold standard for this sort of thing.

Possible Spoilers I'm not sure what you mean with the bolded part. That I-don't-do-boyfrinds-Glen admitted to himself he might want a relationship?
Maybe it was a gradual process. Russell told him during their last night together that he thinks Glen wants a relationship, too. Glen doesn't reply to this but tells him he can't have a boyfriend right now. Obviously, given that he's moving to America the next day. At the train station Glen seemed to be pretty affected and my impression was that if he didn't have to leave he would've tried to start a relationship with Russell. The losing his defenses part must have been somewhere in between.

I agree with this. It's a one night stand that becomes more, but they have only about two days, IMHO that's too short for a love story. Like you said, the dawning was there and we don't know how it would have developed.

I'd read a comment or review some time ago where it was described as 'the gay Before Sunrise' but I can't compare because I've never seen Before Sunrise.

Glen's tears at the station were very touching - I think he was as surprised as Russell by them!

Oh Sparkle, you must see "Before Sunrise" at some point.  (The sequel, "Before Sunset," is great too, but makes no sense if you don't see the first one first.)  There's a scene late in the movie where Ethan Hawke says to Julie Delpy "I want to take your picture," and the next 30 seconds completely reduce me to emotional rubble.

Emotional rubble ...  Shocked  I've never been interested in Before Sunrise, but now I'm curious  Wink  I'll watch it sometime.

Glen's tears at the station were very touching - I think he was as surprised as Russell by them!
And then the embrace -- Awwww  Smiley   Bummer, I can't find a picture of the hug.

I know there are champions of that film, and the sequel, but I'm not one of them.
Didn't get it at all, if "get it" is the right term.
