she claims to be the most obnoxious
  human who's ever lived
but I met him in a bar last Sunday night
he has rancor in his voice
and is still walking over the loves
  who've gotten over him

Like your poetry, fofol (Mike).

Rick, those were beautiful poems about your cats, and I am crying now, too.

What happened to the poem between my saying how good folfol's first was, and my second post about two loves--which doesn't make any sense, now.

If it ever did.... Sad

Sue, Linda, Chuck, and Debbie--thank you all for your kind words. Those cats were very special to me and writing those dedications was truly cathartic for me! Glad you could relate!! Smiley

richan: I liked the cat poems too. In the old days, when people actually WENT TO THE SUPERMARKET, hopng to get a cat=--I got a gorgeous kitten at one. Still suffering from the loss of our old cat, I asked the fellow who gave me the kitten whether he'd mind if I changed its name (whatever it was) to our old, deceased cat's name.. he said No, as long as you get it its shots and so on. He handed me the bundle, and as i walked away, he said "Bye, Sparky Stars," a little wistfully.
SPARKY STARS! (he was black and white, in all the right places). Surely, there was never a better name for a frisky male cat. I tried to find the guy, and tell them we would NOT change his name--but he was gone.

I actually thought about taking out an ad in the paper, telling him Sparky Stars was well and happy, and still Sparky Stars--but that seemed silly, and maybe he wouldn't read that section of the newspaper anyway.

He lived for many years, Sparky Stars. Very Sparky, And very Starry, too.

Sparky Stars was black and white
a poetic cat in all the right places
despite his new mama's initial certainty for change of his name
it fit the cat and stayed the same
but his daddy never knew

a picture at a garage sale I had to have
cheaply, for the price of the frame
when she looked right at me and said, "Frame?" I knew
the wounded artist said, 'a buck, I guess'
so there is this picture on my bedroom wall
of blue and purple mountains bringing to mind the best
of my favorite fictitious reality

the seller's never heard how much I love her art
the cat still has its given name
these are the light irreducible indelible sins of omission
the mea culpa time
which occasionally takes the bubbles from the wine

"Jenny kissed me when we met,
Jumping from the chair she sat in;
Time, you thief, who love to get
Sweets into your list, put that in!
Say I'm weary, say I'm sad,
Say that health and wealth have missed me,
Say I'm growing old, but add,
Jenny kissed me."

O.K. her name ain't Jenny, see?
in fact, it's more like Bill.
and she didn't really kiss me--
which would have made her ill--
but she waved at me and smiled
like i was clever folk
which means--a champagne bubble!
she tool upon herself the trouble--
By God--to get the joke.

With all life's ugliness and scars--
there'll always be--a Sparky Stars!

This is an Unexpected Pleasure....
.

I'd  eat beef liver for a year,
I'd climb up to the Taktshang Tzong*
I'd  swim across the Ganges
I'd do whatever's right--or wrong--
Forget my father  and my son
Forget the men I've  loved the most
I'd never see another film
I'd be a Hungry Ghost--

Why, I would give my Sunday hat
For Such Another Smile asThat!.

*So O.K, it's only a monestary
