With all the love out there for BBM by us fans, how about interactive BBM screenings!!!!

Maybe someday BBM will become a cult movie much like The Rocky Horror
Picture Show, where, in big city centers, there will be midnight
showings, and BBM fans will show up dressed as cowboys and cowgirls,
bring stuffed toy sheep and lassos, pitch a pup tent on the stage (and
have participants recreate the makeout scene), throw popcorn at the
screen and boo when Ennis rejects Jack's offer to shack up, etc.

Anymore ideas on what to do at an interactive BBM movie showing?

I have been debating the wisdom of mentioning this, but here goes.

Has anyone designed a brand for the cow/calf operation that never was?  There are some tattoos mentioned on the Impact thread.  IF (and only if) it's decent and respectable,  it could be a logo for fundraising items. Could be legal issues with this, I guess, and pirated things, but there are some fine minds associated with this forum, maybe they could sort that out.

I just would like there to be some symbol of what could be, what could have been.

PS.  I, too have thought this thing has got to result in "cult movie" showings.  Well, there's also the sing-along Sound of Music.  I think for BBM there would have to be a lot of Kleenex involved, though.

PPS. on the under-18 issue, the website for the Matthew Shepard Foundation has some resources.  Maybe there is already a link to them on this site somewhere.

If we can get a cable network to air Brokeback Mountain at the same time the Academy Awards show is on, we could make a dramtic statement and really get out point across that we're still pissed at the Oscar debacle, and are boycotting AMPAS awards show to protest the 2005 snub

I also really like encouraging people to make donations to the Matthew Shepherd Foundation and the Trevor Foundation in the name of Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist.

Is that something that could be coordinated with National Coming out Day?

I really like the cow and calf operation idea. Now if I could just find an extra graphic designer to create it for us. Any interested? Email me at pete@davecullen.com, and I will send the specs.

At some point, I hope we can address a BBM event during the next Oscar telecast. I'm not sure how we would coordinate it, but in the future, it is an idea to consider.

One of our next ideas, after we wrap up the ad and DVD campaign is to talk with the people at the Matthew Shepard Foundation and see if we can co-sponsor some BBM related activities (screenings, readings, discussions). We know our members really want us to do something in conjunction with them. Some more details on that in May.

As an FYI to all of you, it seems that many of our members really like us engaging in projects to help spread the message of BBM. We plan to continue this for as long as you want and as long as you support the various campaigns. After the busy month of April (with the ad campaign and the DVD campaign), we will focus on the book campaign, a video, and three large mixers (to be held in August). Obviously, we don't want to dilute our volunteer efforts with too much at one time. So, as we gather ideas, some we can't pursue right away, but they can definitely lead to a project or campaign in the future.

Thanks so much to all of you for continuing to share your ideas and your enthusiasm. Ole Brokeback really did get us all good, didn't it?

Getting them to have a one-day or one-week re-release on December 9, 2006.  I really wish it could be shown on IMAX screens.  Can you imagine the size of that?

I loved the Variety ad.  I was unable to find an actual Variety magazine that contained the ad; only saw it on-line.

If it were a poster, I'd buy a few of them.

Especially if some (or all) of the proceeds went to an organization in need.

Are there any copyright hurdles involved?

What do others think?

Thanks

I was reading in local San Diego gay newsmagazine that somewhere in Vermont people are trying to get one of their mountains named 'Brokeback'.  Seems silly to me to do it there, but a campaign to do it in Alberta, especially one of the mountains that were actually in the film, would be totally cool.  Canadians may be hip to that, they seemed excited and cooperative when the filming was going on. Haven't a clue about following up on that one, any ideas?

I know this is not something we can get into. But if anyone has any ideas about how we could get this 'lady' some funds to do some effective campaining, I think it would be worth the effort. Making Blunt look like the ass he is sure shouldn't be too hard.

For What It's Worth

« Reply #41 on: May 07, 2006, 05:37:27 AM »

I was reading the DVD Donation Campaign thread,  and saw the following in a post from Cabin:

This is part of a reply received from a librarian near Dallas, TX

"ps just curious, are other libraries struggling with whether to add or not?  are any flat saying NO WAY?  do [you] see any demographical trends?"

As a person in the linguistic industry, there are linguistic atlases that divide the US in accordance with the way people speak. I wonder how difficult it would be to put together a "Homophobic Atlas of the US/North America"?

Just an idea, if you're looking for a long-term project.

FWIW (For What It's Worth)

Was there ever a campaign to put the book in libraries, not just the DVD? A copy of 'Close Range' would be a lot lower-profile way for a closeted person to have access to the story than the DVD would.

Lance -- No -- We concentrated on the DVD; however, members did place a few books usually where a library didn't carry DVD's.

Hi...
As we all know, December 9 will be the anniversary of Brokeback Mountain's premiere in America...in Los Angeles and new York. After reading about these events, I only wish I could turn back time and have been there for the magical night. We can all relive the excitement and anticipation by trying to have Brokeback shown this December 9 at selected "independent/art house" venues. I have purchased and watched the BBM dvd...but it's not the same experience as seeing it on the large theater screen with a crowd of others, observing reactions and talking in the lobby afterwards...especially with complete strangers sharing the common bond of this great film (which I still believe was "robbed" of the Beat Picture oscar by the Academy. Such an event would be eagerly anticipated (as was the premier) by BBM fans (and new ones who haven't seen the film), and also send a message to the academy on the lasting impression this film has made on so many people.

That said, I am not sure how we would accomplish this..do we have to first contact Focus Features about redistributing the film for the December 9, 2006  weekend..or do we, as a group, or individually, contact local indy thearer managers about doing this. It's not to early to think about this, as theaters have movie schedules set up many months in advance. I believe this would also be profitable for the selected number of theaters, as the event would not be "everywhere" and would be limited to 2 or 3 days (beginning December 9, 2006)...making it a very desirable and "hard to get ticket."

What do we you think? If you agree, is there anyone knowledgable about making this happen within the film industry?
