I love it!!!!!

It makes me cry!  Sad  I know it's supposed to be sweet and funny, I see that.  But it makes me so sad.  Jack deserved to be this happy and so did Ennis.  It WOULD have been a sweet life.   Cry Cry Cry Cry

RickB..

I, for one, look forward to everything you come up with on this thread...I've laughed and cried through every one.

Everyone here is amazing...louisev, lola, everyone.  But your captions...especially the sad ones I think, are what started me returning to this thread in the beginning.  Keep 'em coming sweetie!

I can't tell you what a weird experience it was writing that thing, it actually took a few hours just to write a few words. Eventually, I had to stop and say "it's finished", but ideas are still coming, even now. I have here a more detailed, and hopefully more chilling climax to include. But it only makes sense if you go back to page 147 on this thread (Main Discussion) and read the beginning of "A Night on Brokeback Mountain"

" After his horse had thrown him, the ranger ran down the side of the mountain, a blind state of terror, the likes of which he had never known before. It rose and rose as he plunged headlong down the treacherous slope, deeper and deeper, he ran into the darkness of the valley below.
Branches and bushes seemed to reach out to slash at him, tearing at his skin. His face was bleeding, but he was too scared to know it. Down he went as thunder rumbled overhead. He looked up as a bolt of lightening came right down toward him. It half destroyed a big ol' tree in his path, sparks flying. In the blinding flash, his mind registered something impossible. He thought he had seen, for a split second, between himself and the tree, two black silhouetted shapes that looked to be... well , looked to be two men... just standing there, next to each other. No. It can't be......
A second, even larger thunderbolt ripped through the heavens coming right down to the very same tree, this time finishing it off. And this time, to his utter horror, in a blinding flash, there was no doubt. There WERE two men, or something that used to be two men. Two flickering cowboys, backlit by the burning tree, standing there, side by side, just lookin' at him, like they was.......curious. Time stopped, all went silent and still. He looked at them and they at him. One of them looked.....familiar, had a face he'd seen years before in a family album, a face very much like his own, blond hair and dark eyes.  Seemed to nod, and smile.
The burning tree toppled and crashed and he found himself alone again, running and running, until he fell, hit his head and passed out. When he came to, he saw what he had hit his head on. In the dirt was an old, half buried tin can, still unopened. He dug the can up and wiped off the label, it was ancient, rusty and faded. The label was almost gone, he could just make out the words "Better Most Beans". Someone must have dropped it, here on the trail, just above the river, ages ago. He wondered...
Eventually, he found his horse and they rode out of there together..."

From here the story inserts itself back into the original, if you read the other part first, it should work. I didn't have a copy of the original in front of me just now, so I hope it doesn't contradict. I'm gonna have to put it all together now, I guess. Is there a place here for fan fiction in here somewhere, that I don't know about?
    Thanks again,
    Rick B

By the way, I've been tempted to write "Ennis's Prayer", where he actually wished Jack had brought that old harmonica, which he secretly loved, just because it was Jack playing it, although he would never admit to it. The whole thing would be Ennis unspoken thoughts and prayers as he lay next to his buddy, by the campfire and the rushing river. I will have to figure out how to talk about love without using the actual word.
Anybody have a photo of lightening?
