The book is Ennis; the movie is Jack.
Jack's death made the story greater; the Academy's tire iron made the movie greater.

Sheep herders, isolated for months from the rest of the world, were expected to entertain themselves in the usual way . . . especially if they were randy 19 year olds:

Jack, thinkin' : 30/30, Ennis? 20/20 would help you see everything more clearly. . .
. . .Especially the contents of a heart. . .

Hey, B2BB,
Pleasure to put a face to the wit/creativity. Especially related to this: "A need to talk about this film beyond what anyone in my life could stand." Wink
That deserves another Wink !

Rockbern--loved your photocap above!  Occasionally I will watch a favorite movie of mine and think about the lives of a character or two that had one line or just walked through a scene, etc.  Your photocap fit right in with that idea...

BROKEBACK 2007: JACK AND ENNIS DO THE PSYCHOBABBLE TOUR!!

Nancy Grace: Jack, how could you forgive Ennis for all the pain he caused you? Why don't you make him suffer? Have you forgotten when you drove from Texas after his divorce and he turned you away! Men must suffer for their deeds!! Suffer!!!!!

Jack: well, we both suffered and we've worked past...

Oprah: Let me interupt! What about the women and their pain? How could you do that to them? Don't you feel shamed? Have you owned up to it?
Ennis: We tried to do the best we knew how
...

Dr. Phil: You need to own up to it! You can't change what you don't acknowledge.

It was the homophobic society stupid!!

Anything interesting up there in heaven?

« Reply #20653 on: January 26, 2007, 03:21:01 PM »

Jack: Well, Ennis looks like we’re gonna get cast out of Eden. That’s what happens when ya eat forbidden fruit.

Ennis: Waddya mean?

Jack: Well that coyote ain’t the only one with balls like apples Ennis.

Ennis: (Long pause) Well your trick with the banana probly didn't help much either Jack.

PS That's what you'd call having two bites of the cherry.
