Betty - just adding my thanks to you for sharing this. I remember reading your posts way back and admiring your commitment. It's easy for us here in the UK to think that this sort of issue is behind us.
The UK just has its first openly gay Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy. I read somewhere that she was actually the obvious choice ten years  ago, but that ten years ago she was not an acceptable choice because she made no secret of her lesbianism. Whoever wrote that was pointing out how much the social climate changed in the UK in the past ten years. Some of my family members are going today to a lesbian wedding, of a couple who have been together twenty five years. Technically it is a civil partnership but everyone calls it a wedding, and I'm sure that's how it will feel. Apparently many longstanding older couples are choosing the 25th anniversary of their partnership as a good time for the wedding.
It's all very encouraging, as is your story.

Lovely to hear from you!

Betty, I'm not sure if I've met you before in threads.

I want to add my thanks for your inspiring post. It meant a lot to me to read it, to read it right now.

I didn't see Brokeback Mountain in a theater, on impulse, I went out
to Walmart shortly after Midnight on 2006-04-04 and bought the DVD.

I watched it on 2006-04-06 (and had many of the reactions that have
been mentioned in the "affected me" thread).

I bought the Short Story also, but I like the Movie better.

I want to thank everyone in this forum for their ongoing excellent analysis
which helps make Brokeback Mountain even more tragic for me.  Smiley

Betty -
Your original account of what you experienced with your late brother,  David was one of the main influences that propelled me forward towards a better life.   He would be so proud of what you are doing for church and community.   I am proud of you too.   Congratulations on the progress you are helping to promote.

In contemplating your post, It occurs to me that over the past few years,  a huge amount of change and acceptance in the culture has come to pass.

Can there be any doubt that it is part of the BBM Effect?

Thanks, Betty,  and Hello to all of my Forum Friends.

I haven't been posting here for a long time but I have been reading most of your posts. It's good to know the passion hasn't wavered and newcomers continue to be added. I kinda miss the electricity and thrill of the early days of watching the film soar across our landscape. A friend of mine told me about this forum and I have to thank Dave for starting it. Thanks again.

Good to see you again, Romeo!

I understand what you mean about the "electricty" of when the film was first released.  If I want to recapture that, I go onto YouTube and search for the trailer, and think about when I first saw it, and reading about Brokeback online, and I get that feeling again, although briefly.

Well.....today I have been here three years (it seems longer). I've had my time as manic poster and have worked though my issues with the film.  Along the way I've met some very nice people.  Although I don't post much now, I still find myself here on an almost daily basis.  There are days when I feel I really should quit this place and move on, somehow I'm still here Wink Gets you like this Roll Eyes I think it's the people Wink

Neil, this describes my feeling about the forum, and my experience except that I was never a manic poster. I'll never forget the time I posted the link to this Canal+ advert and you laughed so hard at work your coworkers were afraid you were having a heart attack.  Cheesy
